This saturday was not suppose to be the final points race of the 2009 season but that is what it turned out to be. In the first practice the car was fast down the straight away, but wasn't going the corner like needed to. So the team made some adjustments to try for the second practice and the car was still not wanting to turn through the center. The track offered some more practice time to anybody who wanted to log a few more laps in preparation for the nights 30 lap feature event. In the 3rd round of practice Joshua and the team hit on something and the car started to handle better and pick up speed, Joshua was happy with the car so he ended the 3rd round of practice early confident the car would be good for qualifying. In qualifying, Joshua posted a fast lap of a 17.93 earning him the 6th starting position. On the start of the race Joshua dropped to 7th in turn one but after a 4 lap battle with 94 car Joshua got alongside him, then in turn 2 contact was made to the right side breaking the RR shock mount, with a ill handling racecar due to the shock no longer being attached Joshua managed to hold off the 94 for 3 more laps on the outside, then coming off turn 4 the car would just not stay under Joshua spinning him through the infield grass. Joshua came in the pits thinking the problem was a tire going down, but that is when they discovered the shock had fallen off. The team reacted quickly and thanks to the assistance of Ryan Haddock, who Joshua also spots for, and Jordan Haney Joshua was able to get back on track at lap 17. Another car had fallen out of the race so Joshua earned the 7th finishing position a few laps down. But, with this finish Joshua earned the Runner-up position in the Championship standings, also earning him Rookie of the Year Honors for the Super Stock 4 division. Joshua would like to give a big CONGRADULATIONS to his dad on this first championship after 15 years. Joshua thanks all his sponsors for their support D & R Siding, Right Coast One Call, Baldree Tire, Brad Penn Racing Oil, henrybrothersconstruction.com, Simpson Performance Products, A & A Manufacturing, and Behilings Racing Equipment. Also a big thank you to all the personnel that helped make 2009 possible Brian Van Winkle, Jennifer Unverzagt, Cindy Van Winkle, Eric Winslow, Chrissy Van Winkle, Duffy Cutterback, Ryan Haddock, Jordan Haney, and Houston Pittman. Saturday September 5th was a special day to Joshua and family as it was the 3rd year anniversary of his 'PAPA' passing away. In first practice the #44 D & R Siding Ford Mustang was way to tight in the center of the corner, so Joshua came in and made some adjustments to the chassis for the second practice and the car got tighter so Joshua lost out on that practice and had to hope the team made the right adjustments for qualifying. Except there was 15 minutes after all the practices before teams had to report to the drivers meeting, and Joshua jumped at the chance to get some more practice in and the car finally started to go through the corners better and Joshua was very pleased after that 3rd practice session, other than the radio problems that have plaqued the team for the past two weeks. In qualifying, Joshua layed out a decent first lap at a time of 17.95 then drove the car sideways coming off turn 2 and down the back straightaway for a time of 17.79 earning him the 4th starting position for the 50 lap feature event. On the start of the race Joshua fell into 4th for the first 5 laps until the car started to be to loose for coming off turn 4 slowing him way down letting the #49 car getting by him, which would put Joshua in the 5th position where he would finish. Joshua would like to thank all family and friends who have supported him thus far in 2009.

The race weekend started off on the same note as the last race, with weather in question for racing that evening. But, as practice apporached the question switched from whether rain was going to stop racing or if the very low car count amoung the divisions would, yet the Super Stock 4 class still had 8 cars present. But, it was decided to push on with the show and race for a reduced purse. So the cars took to the track for the first of 2 practice, and Joshua was laying out fast times and had the car hooked up coming off the corners. With the confidence of first practice Joshua and team decided to sit out 2nd practice and save the car for the 30 lap feature event later that evening. In qualifying, everything was going really smooth until coming off turn 4 to complete the first lap the steering would lock up and then release causing the car to be very ill handling ruining the lap Joshua had going, but it was still good enough for 5th as Joshua chased the car down the front stretch. In the feature event it was rather uneventful, other than a very ill handling racecar, after the first few laps Joshua settled into 6th until the last lap where Joshua, his step mom which he was racing for position to the checkered, and his dad who was running 3rd went across the line 3 wide. Joshua and Cindy were unsure of who beat who but officials deemed that Cindy beat Joshua by inches. Joshua still sits 2nd in points at East Carolina Motor Speedway with 3 points races remaining.

Saturday was an up and down day weather wise, as the team arrived to the East Carolina Motor Speedway the track and pits were wet with standing water and everyone was unsure if racing was going to take place that day. But, as the afternoon wore on the track dried and the sky cleared up just in time for the first practice where Joshua was very confident he had a good car for that evenings race. In the second practice the car was a little loose but Joshua felt as if the car would come to him in the race. In qualifying Joshua layed down a time he was sure would be a pretty good lap but, did not reflect that in time which was good for the 5th starting position. At the start of the race Joshua was hanging with the pack for the first 8 or 9 laps then the lead cars started to pull away. On lap 21 there was a caution for the spinning 03. On the restart is when Joshua would have his troubles. Halfway down the front straightaway the motor back fired and lost oil pressure resulting in a DNF for Joshua as it was showed signs of being the teams 6th broke distributor of the year. Joshua was still happy at the end of the night about how the car was handling yet, obviously disappointed about breaking another part. Joshuas DNF resulted in a 5th place finish.

After a week off and a rain out last week Joshua and his team showed up at the East Carolina Motor Speedway with high hopes of a good run after the race giving Joshua his best finish of 09. On the 3rd lap of first practice the distributor gear and auxiallary shaft both broke teeth. The team had a back up distributor, but did not have a auxiallary shaft after asking around to borrow one so Joshua could make the race, Bryan Bonner was contacted and said Joshua could have it but the only problem was that it was in Washington, NC 30 minutes away. Joshua and his mother hit the road and traveld to Washington. An hour later they got back to the race track just in time for the drivers meeting and the rest of the team already had everything set up to the motor back together n they did just in time for qualifying where Joshua posted a time good enough for 5th starting position. At the start of the race Joshua maintained his 5th spot on the track, about lap 15 the car was really loose and coming off turn 4 the rear of the car just slipped from under Joshua causing the only caution of the 30 event. With this caution Joshua took the chance to make an adjustment and get back green on the restart Joshua make a jump into the 4th position and held that position on track until the last lap where step mom cindy go on the inside coming off turn 4 then through 1 and 2 Joshua beat her up off and down on back straight away but in turn 3 and 4 tires touched spinning Joshua up then into the front of the 41 then saved the car but didnt get it going quick enough to get back to the finish like in 4th giving Joshua another top 5 in 2009.

1. #1 Greg Whitley
2. #49 Brian VanWinkle
3. #72 Jeremy Bohne

After struggling the week before Joshua and the team went home and Joshua reset the car. In the first practice on Saturday the car was much better than it has been all season, with a quick pit adjustment the car was tuned in almost perfectly. Joshua was so confident with the first practice that he decided to sit the 2nd practice out. Joshua was the 2nd car to roll out for qualifying, making a driving error into turn one causing a slow lap. When the 30 lap feature started, Joshua was in the 6th position as he quickly made his way to 5th. After 10 laps of hard racing Joshua made a move in turn 1 to pass the 49, his dad, and in turn 3 he settled into 4th, where he would end up finishing. Joshua said after the race "Im really happy to get a good finish its been tough these past few races" Joshua would like to thank all his sponsors and most importantly his family and fans.

After taking July 4th weekend off from racing and helping Eric Winslow on his LMSC Joshua and his team returned to the track, with high hopes of bring home a good run with a new motor. In practice the car was loose, but Joshua felt as if the track would come to him later on in the day and decided to sit out 2nd practice and prepare for qualifying. Joshua was 2nd to hit the track to attempt and lay down a fast time, but after returning to the pits it was told that the 3rd and 4th car would have to re-run due to a timing malfunction. Joshua's time was released as a 18.287, qualifying in the rear out of the 7 Super Stock 4's. At the start of the 30 lap feature Joshua jumped to 6th on the start and that position for 10 laps until the car started to get really loose to the point were it was scrubbing off speed and Joshua was barely able to drive it. On the first caution the team made a pit stop and undid the adjustments made before the race. The adjustments made no effect on the car and Joshua was the 2nd caution spinning off turn 4. Joshua made another pit stop making more adjustment to try and get a better handle on the car. The car made a response for 2 laps and then went right back to the way it was. There was a 3rd caution with 5 laps to go and again the team pitted to try and get something for the last few laps, and again it had no effect, but with the ill handling car Joshua did mount a challenge the last few laps in a 4 way battle with the 49, 33,and 41. The team has some work to do this week and they will return on the 18th to try again and go for the win.

2. #4 Kenny Johnson

Saturday night was the farthest thing from a normal race day. While the team was doing morning prep work, they found a problem with what they thought was the carburetor so they swapped it out and were timing the motor when it cut off and lost compression. The team was baffled by the problem when the car would not fire back up. The team decided to change the head in attempt to fix the problem; once put back together everything was fine and they headed to the track. When practice stated the car was handling good but the motor was still acting up, so the team went back to work to discover a blown carburetor gasket. Thanks to the #1 of Greg Whitley for letting Joshua borrow a spare gasket to make the race. The motor was somewhat better, but with the stock head it was not able to run with the bigger cam. With the lack of power, Joshua qualified 6th. At the start of the race, Joshua jumped to 5th and on lap 10 as the 41 got along side Joshua’s motor blew up. With a long night of problems and rushing Joshua went home with a 6th place finish.

Joshua would like to thank all of his sponsors and a special thanks to David Barnes, Kenny Johnson, and to all of his supporters.
