NISSAN PROPILOT ASSIST TECHNOLOGY

Nissan ProPilot Assist is an advanced technology developed by the Japanese automaker which is a hands-on assistant that is designed to assist drivers during long hauls on the highway as well as daily stop and go traffic commute.

ProPilot Assist system is the first generation of advanced driver assistance technologies developed by Nissan for its cars and the next generation will see assistant technologies being developed for steering, braking as well as accelerating while the driver does multi-lane driving.

This is the Future

Although not fully developed, ProPilot Assist platform developed by Nissan is an all-encompassing approach that looks to redefine how we move in our vehicles using the latest technologies to make our drives easier and safer.

Though this technology is still in it’s developing phase and not fully autonomous but a level 2 Driver Assistance system as defined by the industry standards, so this is present to help drivers and not replace them.

One interesting fact about this system is that when it detects that you’ve taken your hand off the steering, it will give you series of alerts in order to make you put the hand back on steering and it can go as far as halting the car if the system thinks you are endangering yourself in any way.

The current product is a fruit borne by years of research in the field as the world goes through a transition from Driver assistance systems to fully autonomous systems and Nissanseems to be taken it upon themselves to complete that transformation smoothly.

How Does this thing work?

Once the driver sets the desired speed and the distance they want to travel using buttons on the steering, the ProPilot Assist system will jump into action. While engaged, the system will detect the lane markers and according to the turns and curves will help you steer the car smoothly through small inputs and color changes marking the lanes.

The driver has the liberty to switch off the system at any time he likes.

As far as safety is concerned, if the system doesn’t detect a hand on the wheel, it will give a series of audio and visual warnings to get attention, if that doesn’t work then a casual pulse of bakes will be made to get the attention and finally the system will apply brakesslow downin the lane and make the car come to complete halt.

Cargo Options

Ram still has the grip in this sphere with Rambox continuing in this model as well, though it faces stiff competition from Chevrolet.

As far as Ram is concerned, it works the same with fitting storage containers insides of the bed and lockable lids on the top of the bedsides. On the other hand, Silverado is available with new in-bed cargo boxes. These boxes sit above the wheel arches and seem to take up the same space as RamBox but they are removable and don’t need a special bed. As far as Ford is concerned, the F-150 doesn’t come with any lockable storage space.

Silverado seems to be the first in capacity with the new truck bed 6.75 inches wider than previous and thanks to taller fenders, it is deeper too. Though it is not like Ford and Ram lag behind, it is just a small difference between the three which will be clear once all the specifications come.
