WHO IS JOHN HARRIS SHERIDAN AND WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING IN THE MOUNTANS OF KETTLE FALLS, WASHINGTON?

John comes from a theatrical and sports family. His Grandfather John P. Harris started showing movies, in "The Harris Arcade", in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1897. He opened the worlds's first all motion picture theater June 19th 1905 and coined the name "Nickelodeon". Nickel= The Price of Admission and Odeon= The Greek Word for Theater. Hence, the Nickelodeon. The site is now registared by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Historical site. A bronz plaque, at the origional site reads:

"This tablet marks the site on which the honorable John P. Harris in June 1905 opened the first worlds first motion picture theater The Nickelodeon this was the beginning of the motion picture theater industry".

Harry, Sam and Abe, (Jack was too young at this time.) The Warner Brothers became friends of Harris, a good natured ans jovial irishman. The three brothers spent a lot of time, with Harris at the Nickelodeon. Harry Warner sold mens suits across the street, from the Nickelodeon., at Kaufmans Department Store, on the Smithfield Street. He could see the people standing in line, every day and night to get into the theater and knew this was the business for him and his brothers.

The Warner Brothers wanted to start a theater of their own so, Harris helped them put it together. Harris knew where to get the projector, the screen, the seats etc. so, in 1907, in New Castle, Pennsylvania The Warner Brothers opened "The Cascade". It was an immediate success and a year later they opened another Cascade, in Youngstown, Ohio. It only took another year for thr brothers to leave Ohio, for Los Angeles to get into the movie production business. In the mean time, a jewler up the street, fron the Nickelodeon, at the Kettystone jewelers also became acquainted with Harris. Harris told him what he knew about running the Nickelodeon and the jeweler knew this was the busuness for him, as well. He and his son followed the lead, of the Warner Brothers and left for Los Angeles. The father, Lewis became a major motion picture executive and the son David O. became an oscar winning producer-director. The industry knows him as David O. Selznick, producer of "Gone With The Wind".
