It is never too late to learn a new skill. No matter what age you are, you can easily learn to draw animals step by step. The final drawing may look a little difficult, but it’s not really that difficult. All you have to do is follow step by step instructions that are available on numerous tutorials and you will be able to draw any number of animals.

Before you actually begin to start drawing, you will need to get together all the things that you will need – a pencil, a sharpener, an eraser as well as a felt tip pen and some paper. With all this in place, you will be start drawing. Animal sketches are basically done with a few common shapes like ovals or rectangles, and even some triangles. You will have to draw part of the shape or the full one till it all comes together to form a picture. Whatever you don’t want you can always erase.

With each element that you add, you will be adding an additional detail to the drawing. Generally instructions are numbered or coloured so that you know the sequence to follow. Once you finish all the steps in the sequence and you are sure that you have done it all correctly, you can go over the lines with the felt tip pen. Put in the ink only on the lines that you want in the final drawing. Wait for it to dry completely before you erase out the pencil lines. Here is how you can draw some of the popular animals around.

A cat is one of the simplest animals you can begin with. Start with a circle to represent the face. Add to this two pointed ears on either end. From below the circle, draw two curves to resemble the sides of a jug. Add to legs with little paws at the bottom of this jug design. Add in your details like the eyes, whiskers and a tail. And there you have a cat sitting down. You can now color this any shade you want.

Drawing a dog is equally easy. Start with the same circle and add another half circle right on top of it. Draw two floppy ears coming down either side of the face. Drawn two curves on either side, below the circle to represent the body and finish it with two round circles. Add in details like the tail, snout, eyes and the mouth. Erase the excess lines and color in your dog.
