Being a nuclear medicine technologist I would be making an impact on many lives. I revel at thought of making a difference in such a large way. My work will help discover an array of medical issues, such as tumors and disease. Nuclear medicine technologists use radiopharmaceuticals to reveal the specific functioning of tissues and organs. By understanding how the body reacts to forign substances in the body nuclear medicine techonologists exploit the issues going on in your body by presenting the radionuclides into your system. The father of my child was diagnosed with stage four Nasopahrayngeal Carcinoma the day I gave birth to our son. Being around all of the PET scans and types of imagry used to find the tumor in his head inspired me to help other people find out what they need to know in order to keep themselves healthy. I feel as though I will have a connection with this profession because I understand how the patient is feeling. Not knowing wheter or not you need surgery or if you have cancer is a very scary thing. I believe I will do a good job in this field of work because I will be able to relay the information discovered in a way that the patient, and my overseeing physician, will find appropriate. I have also learned that nuclear medicine tehnologists spen majority of their time in the imagry process, which can take hours. I have a feeling I will enjoy this aspect of my job because I will be working alone. I also learned that nuclear medicine technologists mst have relatively good math skills which is not at all intimidating to me, because I love math. While going to school for this degree of Associate of Science, I will be a full time student while raising my son. From what I have researched the program is compared to a forty hour work week, which will be a difficult task to juggle along with being a full time mother. Besides the actual work the fact that I will be able to provide for my family thrills me. I know that I could be working a nine to five anywhere but working in a hospital has been my goal ever since i could comprehend "the good life". I will be very blessed to provide my young son with everything he needs while working full time hours and getting very nice benefits. Being a full time nuclear medicine technologist will allow me to buy a house after less than five years. Working in a hospital as a nuclear medicine technologist will also give me the opportunity to go back to school to advance my career. I have thought about going into CT scans as well. I hope the people who interview me for the position of nuclear medicine technologist will see that I am accomplished and professional and perfect for this job. After talking to a graduate of the program I will be attending he told me in this field I will be working predominantly independently. This aquaintance also explained that if I went back to school for other specialized training I would have a leg up because they would hire me as one person for many tasks in comparison to many people for many tasks. I cannot wait to prove myself and do what I hope I will learn to love.
