Traveling with my husband, we traveled throughout the Burgundy region on a quaint little riverboat vacation. We wished to see and tour eastern France mainly because we had already visited most of the more known tourist visited places and preferred a change of pace and scenery. The way it turned out, we made a good choice since the getaway was in fact excellent and we got a chance to test a few scrumptious wines. Being a barge tour, we lazily drifted down these really tranquil canals and enjoyed the rustic landscapes. The entire Burgundy area boasts a long standing reputation for making superb wines. Most of the outlying scenery outside the many small towns and villages that we passed were dominated with by the distinctive rows of grapes that signified the presence of a vineyard. Since we were taking this trip early in the summer, the grape vines were already showing signs of growth. Most of the small towns and villages along our river route had some sort of distinction for the wine they produced.

Many of the wine shops inside the town offered wine tastings in an attempt to get more sales. To boost the credibility of the claims that they produce the best wines , each town often had a multitude of awards on display for their wines and more often than not had specific specialties. Staying sober was a bit tricky with all the available wine samples.
