The railway is the most commonly used transport for long distance journeys. It is managed by Government of India under the guidance of Ministry of Railways. Indian Railways offers trains of many types like 5-star luxury trains, trains for hilly routes, superfast trains and regular passenger trains for the convenience of the people. To book your tickets for these trains, there are two options available: one is manual booking where you have to go the nearby railway counter and book your tickets in person and the other is online ticket booking using IRCTC web portal.

The IRCTC is the official booking website of Indian Railways and it helps anyone to book his or her tickets 120 days in advance. On visiting this website, you will come across holiday offers, hotel reservations and rail packages too. Booking of tickets can be practically done for any class, from air conditioning coaches to disability support; everything can be reserved online using this website. To log into IRCTC website, you must have a valid mobile number and e-mail ID. After the registration, the user ID, password and the activation link is sent to your e-mail ID. You have to enter the mobile verification code received through SMS and click on the submit button to activate your account. Once the booking of ticket is done you will be assigned a PNR number, which will give all the information about your journey. Using IRCTC, train tickets can be booked by two methods; i-ticket and e-ticket. So, why to wait?
