Squeaking office chair? Now no more!
At your workplace, have you ever been irritated by a sound coming out of your colleague’s seat? Or from your own one? It’s called squeaking! In case you have experienced this, you might know how frustrating that noise is. It is a disturbance for both – the one who is sitting on it and all the others who are present around it.
But if your office chair is making noise over its usage, it doesn’t mean that you need to buy a new one. There may be multiple reasons of squeaking and it’s not impossible to remove that sound. If it is diagnosed in a proper manner, you can fix the problem. Here are some tips to help you fix the noise:
Check for all its mechanisms.
First things first! Turn it over and check all its parts and mechanisms. Tighten every loose bolt of it with the help of a screw driver, plier or wrench. Tighten even those which don’t look loose because with the time and its usage, they may become loose. Ultimately, it would result in irregular rubbing of the different parts and unwanted sound.
Greasing is essential!
As far as the metal elements are concerned, they get corroded due to the moisture in air. To prevent them from rusting, they require to be properly greased. In case you don’t have any lubricant on hands, then buy a good-quality one from the market and apply it on every fitter. Once you put in the lubrication oil, let it dry. As a second option, you can spray it on a soft cloth of cotton and rub that cloth on the problem areas.
Keep all the fitters in the lubricant for a while.
First of all, remove all screws, nuts and bolts and then apply grease to all the mechanisms. After applying it, fit all fitters well and check whether still the sound is coming. If the chair still continues squeaking, then again take out all fitters and let them be in greasing oil for a while. Once they would be properly oiled, they won’t produce squeaking.
Ask someone to sit on it while you’re greasing its mechanisms.
Ask a person to be seated on problematic office chair when you apply the lubricant. Tell that person to swivel its seat. As soon as it makes noise, find the area from where the sound is coming and then, properly grease that part. Once you are done with that part, tell him/her again and again swivel the seat. Keep applying the lubrication oil until it doesn’t stop squeaking totally.
Use your chair gently!
If you want that it lasts for a longer time than usual, then you have to pamper it. Use it gently and kindly. Do not have a practice of falling or collapsing in your seat. Instead of that, have a habit of sitting down gently on it because jumping or falling onto it would make it noisy, in no time!
You spend a lot of time working at your organization, right? Due to that, your chair also has to tolerate so much of wear and tear every day. So if you properly look after it, then you’d certainly be able to prevent it from squeaking and eventually, you as well as your colleagues can focus on the work!
