How wifi works:-

We all use wifi in our daily life.  We keep on looking for available wifi signals in our phone, tablet and many other devices. Once we find our desired wifi name, we just connect to the wifi and use the internet. But have you ever tried to know how does wifi work? How does it start connecting to WWW by just clicking on the wifi name and entering the correct password? We all are surrounded by many wifi signals throughout the day and keeps on sending and receiving data. The logic and technology behind this are quite interesting. Please keep on going through this article because in this article we have discussed the topic, how does wifi work?

Wifi has become a basic necessity nowadays and it is very difficult for us to think of ourselves without wifi networks. Until a few years back, people used to take it lightly when we talk about sending and receiving data through a wireless network. Sending and receiving images, videos, mails, big files through the wireless networks was like a laughable concept until a few years back. If you see carefully, in wifi technology you not only receive data but you can also send data. So it is both way communication. It is not like a tv or radio signal which has only one-way communication. You use wifi on the phone, computer, laptop, and many other devices and it establishes a two-way communication. So overall speaking this is a very interesting concept.

So let us know more about this technology. It may be a little tough for you to understand or some of you may find this interesting too. So let’s not waste time and try to understand how the entire technology works. You all must be aware of electromagnetic waves. There are many times of electromagnetic waves such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultra violate rays, x-rays, gamma-ray. But in wifi technology, we use only radio waves and microwaves and through these waves, we send signals outside our devices.

Signals are not visible and it travels in the form of waves. The data travels through the signals in the form of waves. It is very difficult for us to understand the entire process, as we can not see any physical transmission of data and the entire process takes place in the form of microwaves signals. The computer only understands the binary numbers (0 and 1). This 0 and 1 only can travel through the signals and transmit data between devices. You must have seen waveforms out of ponds or lakes if a stone is through in the still water and the waves spread over the entire water surface and reach up to the edges of the pond or lake. In wifi technology also, the same mechanism happens. Perhaps you could see the signals coming out of your phone or wifi device, you would have understood the entire concept. Here also the signal spreads over the entire area from a single device and it reaches up to the destination where the other device receives the signal.

In our day to day life, we call a person by his / her name and not only that person can hear your voice but all the other persons who present there at that particular time can also hear the same instructions. But in the case of wifi technology, the data is transmitted in an encrypted format, so that it can reach the correct destination only where it needs to be reached and not to any other destination. This technology is full of science. Like earlier we used to have 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G network and now we are moving towards 5G network, similarly in wifi technology also, we have experienced different generations and standards such as 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac and now 802.11ad, etc. So we have used different frequencies, encryptions methods, different bands and now our goal is to invent an ultra-fast wifi signal which is as fast as a wired network signal.

In wifi, we use two bands  -  2.4 gigahertz band and 5 gigahertz band. In 5 gigahertz the signal speed is very high but the range is comparatively slow whereas the 2.4 gigahertz signal range is quite big and the speed is comparatively slow. Our goal is to develop such wifi signal which has speed and at the same time higher rang also.

Now coming to the point, how the 0 and 1 are transmitted through the wave signals is a big question and there the technology has improved a lot. For example, suppose you see a video on the internet through wifi, you can see different frames in the video. In the entire frame in each pixel, there is much information and how the frame developed, the entire thing was converted into 0 and 1. There are different parameters in the waves and the frequency can also be changed. The frequency which is fast becomes 0 and the frequency which is comparatively slow becomes 1. The amplitude property of the wave can also be changed so as to make it clear where it denotes 0 and where it is 1. The different patters developed in the form of 0 and 1 make it quite easier for the receiver to decode the binary into meaningful stuff. The speed of transmission is near about 300000 km per second which is capable to transmit a large number of 0 and 1 in case of full HD video. The receiver can easily understand the signal of 0 and 1 and transmit the data very quickly.
