Help For Long Island
Help for Long Island (HFLI) is a volunteer organization that was formed in 2004 by Long Islanders for Long Islanders. As is the case nationwide, too many families on Long Island are struggling and not able to provide even the most basic needs for themselves and their children. With prices rising all over Long Island, and programs that offer help being drastically reduced, our belief is it’s time to reach out to one another and offer a helping hand. Here we all live in such a supposedly affluent area, but unbeknownst to so many, the family next door to you may be going to bed hungry, with no hot water or electricity. Sadly, personal hygiene items (which are not covered by food stamps) have become luxury items for these families in crisis. Needless to say, we find these situations intolerable, and it is made all the more so when children are involved.
Fortunately, we can work together to offer a helping hand! A small gift, a decent meal, gently used clothing, bedding, and even cleaning supplies would mean the world to families in need. And the very fact that help is offered oftentimes means just as much as the help itself.
Since our inception, we have had over 300 requests for assistance. Our goal is to offer a hand up and not a hand out, and to that end, because our volunteer base includes a wide range of service people, we can offer psychological, budget, and educational counsel free of charge.
May Peace and Joy Fill All Of Our Hearts and Homes.
