Abandoned History: Lost and Forgotton Areas of the Tristate Region

Perhaps one of my favorite pastimes is exploring abandoned and historical places. Each structure has its own history which is waiting to be unlocked. I also tend to find the buildings that I encounter to be a standing tribute to the ways of our society. Centralia is a great tribute to the mindset of America; its fate is now clear as it slowly burns from the inside, with millions of dollars of Anthracite coal left to waste. Fricks Lock is another example of this: it was purchased and abandoned by the Limerick Power Plant for health reasons in the 1970s. But perhaps a more heartening story is that of Fort Hancock in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. It now is a slumbering NIKE base, but more appealing, a beach front park. I find it to be a more comforting tale of our history. Most of the information that you will read has been gathered from other sources, and please feel free to visit their links! The photographs, however, are mine and I hope you enjoy my point of view on these important landmarks.
