The Top Five Breathtaking Dance Films

There's nothing special about dancing movies that capture the heart and spirit moving. Add an uplifting message using the dance and the movie gets even more powerful. Below are a few of my favorites that never don't inspire me. They always leave me feeling good, believing that I could do anything, and up on my feet dancing.

1.
Director: Bruce Beresford. Stars: Chi Cao, Bruce Greenwood, Kyle MacLachlan, Joan Chen.
This real story is based on the autobiography of Li Cunxin, born in 1961, who grew up in poverty in China and has been putting into very rigorous training to become a dancer beginning at age eleven. The result was that he became an international premiere ballet dancer. His struggle for personal and artistic freedom is extremely inspirational. The dance scenes are beautiful.

2. One Last Dance (2003)
Stars: Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi, George De La Pena.
This inspirational film indicates the interior world of amateurs with the subject it is never too late to achieve your fantasies. It is a labor of love Created by Lisa Niemi and Patrick Swayze. Their dance scenes are absolutely stunning and reflect their true-life love for one another. This story started off as a critically acclaimed stage play, With No Word, at Beverly Hills in 1984.

3. Save Your Last Dance (2001)
Stars: Julia Stiles, Sean Patrick Thomas, Kerry Washington.
This film is the story of two high school students who use dance as a means to raise and locate their life-paths. Sarah struggles to get into living her dream of becoming a ballerina and Derek uses hip hop to concentrate him from gang involvement. There is a sub-plot of racial relationships. The dancing is often trendy and fun with great music.

Manager: Stephen Daldry. Stars: Jamie Bell, Julie Walters, Jean Heywood.
A year old boy in England discovers dance that puts him free. Eventually, dance helps him cope with his mother's passing and household relationships, and then moves him beyond poverty to become a renowned professional dancer. The dance outdoors by Billy is just exhilarating. The movie was adapted into a stage play which has been extremely successful on Broadway and in London.

Stars: Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Rhodes.
What more could be said about this classic love story set in the'60s where two individuals from various worlds find each other and also their true inner selves during dance. The movie has fantastic dancing and music, fantastic acting, and lots of sub-plots. It's said that the cooperation on this movie by the author, choreographers, along with celebrities was totally amazing. It's interesting that in each one of these films --starting with Patrick Swayze portraying the character, Johnny at Dirty Dancing, there's one man principal character who sends out the message it is really more than okay for a male and a dancer. Another powerful theme in these movies is how dancing intensifies a love affair. In conclusion, each one of those inspirational films shows the major character(s) experiencing the joy of dancing, the tough training and work necessary to be a dancer, as well as the fight for and recognition of their dreams.
