"How They Do It"

S.O.R. Vista Cruise (Throttle Lock)

Custom Installation.

Sport bikes with dual (push/pull) throttle cables.

Pictures are from an installation on a 2002 Kawasaki ZX6R.

Please read ALL of these suggestions for custom installation BEFORE attempting to install.

Do NOT proceed from one step to the next until ALL interferences with normal throttle operation have been rectified.

First step is to remove the bar end and the grip.

With the grip removed, you will notice a ridge around the plastic sleeve. Un-screw the adjusting screw on the Vista Cruise (VC) and place it around the throttle. You will notice that it will hang up on the ridge. Some people remove the ridge and others modify the VC. I choose to modify the VC.

To modify the VC, you must chamfer around the area where the interference with the ridge is. I used a Dremel with a sanding drum. Use caution to avoid increasing the inside diameter of the VC. Do several test fittings to insure that when loosely held in place, the throttle still smoothly operates.

Remove all burrs from the VC and place it around the grip. Feel for the radial float of the throttle and with it in the center of the float, drill a pilot hole for a small countersunk sheet metal screw. I used my Dremel as a drill allowing a hole more parallel to the bar than I could get with a standard drill.

Now, where to drill that hole? Move the VC around until the lock tab is comfortable to reach with your thumb, but still allows access to the starter and kill switches. That is the drill position for the VC. The hole in the throttle block needs to go through between where the cable come out of the housing. I drilled through the heavier section of the casting. Note that these pictures are from the 6r and the hole through the VC is in a different spot since the throttle block is positioned differently.

Next, countersink the VC for the screw head, plus a little extra.

Install the VC using your small screw and test for smooth operation. If everything checks out ok, remove screw, apply a small amount of locktite and re-install.

Note: Screw should not be tight. It should allow the VC to float a small amount.

The flange on the grip must be modified in diameter to avoid interference with the VC. It needs to be slightly smaller than the clear plastic washer that came with the VC. I held the grip on a screw driver chucked in my drill and then held it up to the grinder.

Place the plastic washer in position and re-install the grip. Be sure that grip does not cause binding. You sould leave about a .05 gap between it and the VC.

Re-install the bar ends. Check for interference with the grip. I had to use a flat washer to get an acceptable gap of about .040. Be sure to use locktite on the bar end after everything checks out ok.

Re-test, then if ok, go out for a ride and enjoy!
