Murter Island is the biggest in
the Sibenik archipelago, with its area of 19 square kilometers. Farmland on the
island is scarce, because the ground is hilly, but there is large number of fig
and olives trees, as well as vineyards. While on Murter, you have the perfect
opportunity to make a visit to the Kornati
Islands National Park and Sibenik.
One of the best places to visit in Sibenik is Bar Azimut. It’s a well known
place already, attracting a large variety of visitors. They opened up this club
at the right time, just as Sibenik was making its way into the culture scene.
They organize a bunch of events – concerts are held by both famous and unknown
artists and they manage cultural events such as quizzes, fairs and the Croatian
Travel Festival. The bar also
participates in cultural events held in the city. The atmosphere is always very
energetic as it is often full of artists, musicians and intellectuals.
At the bar, you can have a cup of coffee during the day and a good night out in
the evening. It’s open all year round but limited only to the indoors during
the winter. During the summer though, they set up a stage outside and sometimes
the bar is so crowded that people sit on the grass next to the bar and enjoy
their time there. The best part about the whole place is that no matter whose
concert it is, whoever the musician, it is always free. This not only means a
lot to the locals, but to tourists as well – there was a bunch this year!
When it comes to sports and leisure on the island of Murter however, there is a number of possibilities. Most places on the island have scuba diving centers where you can rent out equipment, take a scuba diving course or go on a diving excursion. The biggest center is in the town of Murter. There is also the opportunity to go windsurfing, anytime, anywhere. You can have a go at rowing (there is also a rowing club you could join), fishing, playing soccer (a soccer tournament is organized every July in Murter), there are tennis courts in Jezera and Murter, etc.
