Getting a dog is a lifetime commitment.  That is why training them is like giving them a good education and head start in life.  Training your dogs to be obedient and well behaved dogs are essential to their growth. It will not only make them smart, responsible (oh yes! dogs are capable of being responsible if you show them the way) and lovable but they will occupy a lasting place in your heart and in your family as they become a real member of your family.

Teaching your dogs to be obedient is the first step to being responsible.And deciding to teach them right at the comfort of your home is the perfect choice.Now what to teach your dogs and how to do it?  Here are 3 common obedience methods and proper behavior you can teach your dogs that’s also packed with tons of fun and bonding moments.

1.GETTING YOUR DOG’S ATTENTION

Dogs are very smart animals that is why they can easily sense when you are mad, upset and in serious business with them.  That is why, the moment you have a dog, do not say his name over and over again.  You should only address him by his name when you want to get their “immediate” attention. And when you do say his name, say it loud, firmly and with conviction so that he knows the seriousness of your tone.  You are guaranteed to stop him on his tracks and get his 100% attention.

2.THE JUMPING PROBLEM

Just like kids, when your dogs see you, they can’t help it but jump up and down to greet, touch and kiss you.  Its their way of saying “I miss you Mommy or Daddy!”  But the problem is, if your dog is big they can knock you down or if they are small they can scratch your legs.  So how to avoid this?

The moment you arrived and they start jumping at you, turn your back against them.  This will lessen the energy of your dogs because you are not giving them attention.  Next, tell your dog to sit and calm down.  And once they are behaved and relaxed you say “sit.” And finally, if they are relaxed and sitting down already, give them a small piece of food or doggie treat.  But make sure to keep your hand low and place it under their mouths so they will still be in a sitting position and not get them excited again.

3. POTTY TRAINING

Dogs need to be potty trained too and what’s great about them, is they learn very fast.  Thus the moment you bring home your new dog or puppy, start the training immediately.

Keep your puppy first in a crate and let him experience his poop and mess around him.  Once he experiences it, your dog will realize how unpleasant his situation is, he will start to hold “it.”  Now begin to let your dogs out of the box or crate every 2 hours. But before carrying him, give him water so he will have a full bladder.  Then give your command like “go poop! Or do your thing, or time to go wee-wee!”  Create this pattern and routine, and soon he will learn that if he drinks water, he is let out and is allowed to pee.

You could also teach your dog to ring a bell.  Hold a bell in your hand, and call your dog to touch it with their paws and nose, and if they touch it, you let them out immediately.
