I am a father to a 7month old little boy, so when considering a career every decision I make affects him too. So when I started college I listed a general behavioral science degree as my choice not really knowing what I wanted to do, and once I took a psychology class I knew then I liked it enough to make it my career. Not every occupation guarantees steady employment, but I'm willing and able to make my way into the job market or possibly to start my own private business. A masters degree in Psychology takes approximately six to eight years to obtain, so the training I begin now in this particular field leads to more training. Going into the field of Psychology will definitely challenge me in all aspects of my life; as a result, I will become more of the person I want to be for me and my family. I believe, in order for me to continue to pursue being a Psychologist I would unfortunately have to move because there is no employment for my field available locally. Moving away would be a fresh start in my life, so it would be a good thing to establish myself in another city or state even. My career would never take over my life. I plan on starting my own practice; therefore, I'm in complete control of my life and my career. Being a Psychologist requires numerous ours of time and energy. Gathering information from the many clients and listening to their troubles and concerns and evaluating them as so. I'm understanding and a superb listener, so really focusing in on other peoples dilemma's altogether interests me. There are many probable stressors in this occupation such as trying to control the behavior of others whether they like it or not, and persuading others to act counter to their particular wishes and desires. A psychologist salary varies depending on what state he/she works and the type of field they are in. A Psychologist salary ranges from 50,000 to 150,000 annually. I feel that I could maintain an adequate lifestyle with the salary that being a psychologist is likely to provide. I believe it may take some time to reach an acceptable salary, you can't always start at the top. Everyone has to have a retirement plan theses days, and I plan on being a self-employed psychologist so I would invest in the Simplified Employee Pension Plan. I would require a little more than two weeks a year vacation. My vacation would be one month long. My clients would know when I would be on vacation because it would be the same every year. A psychologist has to have some time off working 40 hour weeks, dealing with each and every persons emotions and many behavioral problems. I expect to still be working in the field of psychology for approximately ten years and if everything goes as planned then I hope to be very successful also. After ten years in the business I would hope to have a strong passion for another career to experience. Having close connections with other workers within the organization and beyond is imperative. Having the different outlets could greatly benefit you and many ways. I've experienced alot of moving around as a adolescent; therefore, I like to travel, I prefer to do alot of flying from one city to another or maybe even a country. Having a significant other that has a career and a child is a blessing, and it just makes everything else work and become much easier.
