The Red Sox Are Fast Out Of The Traps
There has been a lot to
admire in a fantasy baseball league early on in this season out of Boston. It
seems strange to say that especially considering that the Red Sox are out front
in first place even if it is just 20 games into the season. The American League
East was supposed to be the toughest, most brutal division in a fantasy
baseball league this season, and the one team that almost nobody was making a
case for was the Boston Red Sox.
However, from Shane
Victorino’s terrific start to Will Middlebrooks’ three home run game against
the Toronto Blue Jays, there has been plenty to cheer about at Fenway this
season, but perhaps nothing has been more impressive than the start by Clay
Buchholz. Buchholz has started four games this season, and the Red Sox have won
all four of them, and he has gotten the decision in all four of them. He has a
0.90 ERA and has only given up three runs in 30 innings all season. Maybe the
best indication of Buchholz’s early success in a fantasy baseball league and
what it could mean for the Red Sox this season and in the near future, is that
his first three wins of the season all came against competitive division
opponents. Buchholz has beaten the New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles and
the Tampa Bay Rays already this season.
Maybe Jon Lester was supposed to be the Red Sox’ new ace when the season began and Lester has been very good himself (3-0 with a 1.73 ERA), but Buchholz has been better than good so far this season in a fantasy baseball league and if he keeps it up he will wind up in the conversation for the AL Cy Young award at season’s end.
