Would it not be nice if people could have jobs from home? That way they could look after the kids, be safe from mugging, finish chores, and still get work done.

Well lucky for you, there are indeed some home-based jobs you could consider. Outsourcing jobs to homes is actually what you call “home-sourcing” or “home-shoring”.

Companies have come to realize that they do not necessarily have to offshore some of their operations. They could actually engage in “home-shoring”. Home-shoring involves outsourcing jobs to homes in the company’s area or country.

The company could save on costs this way. But companies opting to home-source are actually not after the money. Sure there are savings to be made with this form of outsourcing. But to be honest, there are more savings with offshoring.

Home-shoring companies are actually operating under an advocacy. They prefer to give work to their own. They acknowledge that their own neighbors need jobs, and they would rather address that concern than save on overhead costs.

Companies that engage in home-sourcing include: oDesk, which stands for Online Desk, is an online financial-services provider to other businesses; JetBlue Airways, an American budget airline; and Office Depot, a popular retailer of office equipment.

Stay-at-home moms no longer have to stagnate and get bored with chores. There are tons of jobs from home that can keep them occupied and give them a sense of fulfillment. All this without even having to sacrifice their chores!

An interesting trend is that home-sourced jobs used to be limited to call center work, customer service, and information technology services (data processing, web design, virtual assistants, etc). Now however, employers have come upon a helpful realization. There are a slew of jobs that they could actually home-source!

This variety of jobs can actually involve traditionally professional jobs. Accountants, even architect jobs are now being home-sourced!

This could be very advantageous to people who have to take care of an indefinitely indisposed family member or had early pregnancies. Or even to people who simply prefer to work from home.

Home-sourcing has a ton of advantages. People who opt to work their jobs from home usually prefer it that way. Providing workers with what they want provides motivation. Motivation can boost their loyalty to you.

We already mentioned that with actual offshoring, the company can save more. However small enterprises might actually want to take a look at home-shoring. Employees working on jobs from home usually pay for their own equipment (telephone, computer, internet connection). That can be advantageous to smaller businesses that cannot afford to hire outsourcing agencies or internally offshore operations. Hiring locals also means the company does not have to worry about accents, language barriers or cultural differences.

For the workers, there are possible tax deductions they could look into with home-based jobs. And for disabled people, working from home could very well be their only option.

Kudos to employers who took the nobler route to home-shoring! Right now there are just a few of them but you will never know what the future holds. Well what are you waiting for? Go to Google, type in: jobs from home, in the search bar and find your dream job, get your chores done, and remember to send those patriotic employers a thank you note!
