Online dating? No. … A date courtesy of an online group buying daily deal site? YES!

I can tell you from my numerous years of experience with online dating websites, the #1 mistake for a first date is “dinner and a movie.” Half the profiles come right out and say it: “You can’t talk and get to know someone in a theater.” Or they just deal the death-blow: “How boring!”

Enter DailyDealTime. One deal. One day. Something you’ve likely never thought of. Is it a new, trendy or unusual restaurant? Is it a tour or instructional lesson in gourmet cooking, para-surfing or ballroom dance? Whatever it is, it’s ever-so-much-more-interesting than dinner and a movie.

And seriously, we’re not really talking just about first dates. Hubbies, do you remember the concept of “Date Night”? It used to be so easy, didn’t it? You naturally dreamed up new and exciting things to do with your sweetie. Well, now it’s still easy, and it fits in the we-can-afford-it-if-it’s-half-off family budget.

One of the beauties of DailyDealTime’s daily deals is the “intrigue factor.” Anybody can take her to a movie. But I bet she’s never been on a first date that included asking her to dress really nice, because she’s going to a portrait session with an award-winning photographer (on your half-price DailyDealTime dime), a skydiving lesson (nothing says, “I still love you” like holding hands while plunging 120mph toward earth), or a two-day instructional football camp for those who will likely never be in the NFL.

Here’s the thing to remember. Sure, you signed up (in all honesty) as a “guy” in such-and-such zipcode, age 34—okay, you probably lied about that, you hipster you. But keep an eye on the deals that are aimed at women: the spa treatments, the shooting range package, the 5-day all-inclusive Mexico getaway.

And hey, there’s nothing wrong with “dinner and a show,” as long as that “show” is live theater in the hippest corner of town. Can’t talk in the theatre? You’ll have plenty to talk about when it’s over. Keep a decent Italian red (watch for the ½-price wine deals!) and a corkscrew in your car at all times, in case a date moves to a bottle of wine somewhere where there’s no one but you two.
