Catherine R. Alvarez, Ph.D.

Meet Dr. Alvarez:

Dr. Catherine R. Alvarez is an Adjunct Professor of World Religions, at the University of South Florida. Dr. Alvarez grew up in Tampa and attended the University of South Florida, where she graduated with Honors, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies, on May 5th, 2001.

After college, Dr. Alvarez attended graduate school, at Pacifica Graduate Institute, in Carpinteria, California, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Mythological Studies, with emphasis in Depth Psychology, and a Ph.D. in the same specialty area. The Dr. successfully defended her dissertation, on Desire and Longing as a Manifestation of Spiritual Yearning, on December 9th, 2009. In 2005, Dr. Alvarez began her academic teaching career with the department of Education, at the University of South Florida, teaching Freshman important study skills to ensure their success in college. Once receiving her doctorate, she began teaching World Religions, in the department of Religious Studies, where she still teaches.

In December 2012, Dr. Alvarez began her 100 hours of face-to-face personal analysis, with IAAP Analyst Kathy Mays, Ph.D. (member of the International Association of Analytical Psychologists), as a prerequisite for application to the Inter-Regional Training Program, to become a Jungian Psychoanalyst.
