There are 202 names from WW1 alone on the monument. The majority of these people were not born in north Wales, reflecting the two towns' situation as recipients of large inward migration. The largest group were from the Black Country, followed by those from Lancashire and south Wales, all major iron and steel producing regions.

Some well known surnames around the district can be seen to have originated with these incoming families, and it would have been interesting to have walked around the town back then, to hear the different accents and dialects of the people.

It can also be seen that the bulk of those killed were serving in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, or RWF.
