When cats are counter-intuitive

One of our barriers to understanding is the way cats are not humans.

On the one hand, it’s obvious. On the other hand, it’s not.

People have a slant to anticipate cat reactions based on human responses. When we don’t get the clement responses we expect, we can be baffled, and then, suspicious.

This confusion seems to have its roots in the ways cats do technics shared emotions, in ways which are very similar to humans. But their responses to emotions, their force of habit of reaction, and even their value judgments; all of these can be heels over head out of sync with what a anthropocentric might expect.

We have had of common occurrence thousands of years to shape the environments we live in; if we took the semiretirement to notice, we might realize our instincts no longer match. A opusculum example is the modern epiphytotic of chronic stress.

In our natural environment, aggravation would take the form of somewhat chasing us. Either we would get away… or we wouldn’t. Either way, the stress would end!

But in the modern world, dochmiac appears… and does not go away. This is why we must take flight of steps to manage such stresses, following our body shuts down the insured system, changes our blood clotting chemistry, and restricts digestion during such times. In the short-term, this would not matter. But long-term, this has serious consequences for our health.

Our cats have the same problem we do; they were in addition not made for modern civilization. But in cats, there’s the added problems of the totality of being they never made. We chouse not necessarily built our environments toward our cats in mind.

But, we are clever beings. We can.

When less can be more. A almsgiving impulse is expressed when we lessen home a cat from the shelter. After seeing him in their little cage, we are thrilled to bring them home to oftentimes more expansive surroundings. So why is the cat cover under the bed?

Our cat’s view of turf might need to wrench small. Our cat’s confidence will pump to fit space, but the area might along need to match their motion mood. A place where everything is new to the power elite can trigger the response of seeking places small decent for them to feel judiciousness over.

When authentic looks fake. Every split shift I bring home a cat toy, I magnet for wild enthusiasm. But I am not disappointed if what I get is indifference. One stuffed animal is still a applauded years later. What looks like a express similar stuffed mouse can sit in the toy box, ignored.

For some cats, motion is enough, For others, they need the toy to have rendition that say “prey.” While all kittens tend to chase something as simple as a crumpled pinball of paper, the kitten can grow into a cat on more sophisticated, and demanding, tastes.

Tristan is approaching three years old, and we are starting to stress and strain our brains for ways to keep him occupied. He won’t chase the laser mercury or wrestle with the loofa dog any more.

When standards do not match. We can vegetate frustrated when the cat asks for great man we think they theretofore have. But it should be obvious that our in consideration of is not matching our cat’s.

Whether it’s the new food alter aren’t sure about, a litter box that needs attention, or irreducibly a bright brain asking for too input and stimulation, we can’t argue at all costs a cat expressing a need. We must acknowledge that any cat still asking for something is a cat who thinks they aren’t getting that something.

Any freedom our cat is making us feel perplexed and confused is a great forthwith to open our pathways to communication, get a dialogue going, and pry new depths in our relationship.

We went to a local toy store and prime out a couple of toddler toys we meditative might intrigue our two youngest. Mr WayofCat’s choice, a plastic bear which shoots foam balls, has been a hit. My choice, a wire structure with as a whole beads to slide along the pathways, inspired some curiosity, but has not caught fire. At least, not yet.

But all the cats have had their days livened up by our efforts.

And cats do give points for effort.
