Since March 2014, the previously excellent genealogy website findmypast.co.uk, has changed its search interface for a new programme.  Not really a problem, I hear you say.  No, not a problem if it had been changed for an equivalent or superior one, but unfortunately the new site was vastly inferior.  Again you may ask, was this such a huge problem - surely the company would work to sort out the problems and everything would be great again.  Unfortunately, things over the past 3 months (that is as far on that we now are) have gone from bad to worse.

findmypast are apparently now so deeply entrenched in the mess they have created, that the only thing open to them is to attempt to stifle the negative comments which have been proliferating across the internet since the changeover.

On their own Facebook page, they have blocked a number of people from posting over the time since the changeover, with no good reason in many cases as these people had not violated any rules. On 02 May 2014 they brought in "House Rules" which are increasingly quoted in a more and more draconian manner.

On their own website, findmypast.co.uk, there was a Feedback Forum - in fact there still is.  But this is nothing like the Forum that was there in March 2014.  The main thread of discussion, relating to the new search interface, which had over 2,000 comments, was deleted without warning.  Just prior to the deletion, the Forum was put into moderation, which meant that FMP could decide what was published from the comments submitted - free expression went out of the window.  There are now some discussion threads still active, but nobody knows what comments are being disallowed.
