Butterfly Ranch Gardens
Butterfly Ranch Gardens
Welcome to the Butterfly Ranch. At one time, the grounds here were entirely bermuda grass. A dynamic change began in 1999, but at the time, no one expected such an enormous makeover. Butterfly Ranch resident and chief butterfly chaser, NancyAnn, actually knew nothing of gardening when she began. Every plant she'd ever tried to grow had died a miserable death. But the gift of about 200 big yellow Richard Wallace cannas changed the fatal trend and spurred a passion NancyAnn didn't even know she had. And now, the Butterfly Ranch is home to many cannas, gingers, hardy bananas, about 500 daylily cultivars, bearded irises, Japanese irises, Louisiana irises, various sedums, and so much more. Brightly colored butterflies and duelling hummingbirds flock to the Ranch. Two-legged visitors of the human kind also find the gardens intriguing and are often heard oohing and aaaahing over some plant they've never seen before. The Butterfly Ranch is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, right off Hwy 63, about an hour from Memphis, Tennessee. So if you're planning to be in the area, drop us a line and come take a guided tour.
