Super Salsa Stars

S.S.S was started during the fall of the 2006/07 school year, but what's ironic about it is that it's a dance team that was really never intentionally what I would call "Planned". At the time our "Latin Dance Club" was barley initiating and it consisted of "Bachata", "Folkloriko","Merengue","Flamenco", and of course the famous "Salsa".The Latin Dance club is place where teens are able to express their talents through dance and be part of an innovative organization. Its somewhere where young adults could simply have fun doing what they loved to do with the people they wanted to be with, dancing. To get in a certain type of dance the guys would have to audition and later on they would find out what dance exactly they were chosen for. Although some of the students were not all very committed to their dance specialties, the salsa dancers gave it their all and most importantly their "Hope". Maybe it was their sponsor, and their ultimate supporter Ms.Andrea Jimenez that saw their amazing capabilities of actually going somewhere with all of them. She then introduced her students to one of her friends Roy Delgado that which by the way is until today the S.S.T instructor, who then started dedicating all his Saturday mornings to these eager dancers. Mr.Delgado is in his own professional salsa club called "Cali-Rumba" and was also excited to show the guys some of the intriguing salsa movements. At the beginning the kids started practicing in Ms.Jimenez's portable, every Saturday morning they would all meet up and move all of the desks around to start practice. That year, their first year, they already had a beautiful choreography finished and had a chance to perform for the first time at their school Skyline Center. Their last performance that year was in the Cinco De Mayo show. It wasnt until the year of 2008 when the still dedicated dancers started practicing at Ms.Jimenez's house in her garage surrounded by mirrors which was for all of us even better...and bigger. It seemed to a lot of people that we were capable of doing so much more and because of that we were able to go perform in San Antonio at the Henry B. Gonzales convention center with other schools around Texas. Not only that but we've been also chosen to be on "School Zone Dallas" a show about goal acheiving schools, and that just made everyones face light up once they all found out that we were all going to be on television. I can honestly say that we have "All" been through absolutley "Everything" anybody can think of. Crying together, yelling at everyone, screaming of joy and anger, singing our lungs out at practices and on the bus, running together racing eachother, going out to eat together having to carpool about eight people in a car(its natural to us now), laughing histerically until our stomachs and cheeks start to hurt, and even singing kareoke at times. To my personal experience its something that has grown deeply upon eachother, its crazy how we all already know when someone is sad or mad just by looking at them. Each dancer has their own unique character and attitude that completes the glamorous S.S.T.

A special thanks goes to everyone who's helped make this possible:
