Some notes about the 2 album:
Having totally exhausted myself in the recording of the 1st album in Guangzhou, China(Jan 2006), i retired myself in the rooms of a 5 star Hotel. It is right after the Chinese New year and i lay down in the hotel bed gazing at the ceiling with a blank in my mind. The ceiling is like a blank. I am looking into him and he is looking back to me. We exchange our point of view about the vanity of life in the quietest hours of the night.
The sheer burden of recording the first album had overcome me. It almost crushed me spiritually. Somehow i have become so dissapointed and tired of all the things. I have become so depressed that i have given up hope for a 2nd album. The burden has never been a musical one nevertheless. It has always been my own private personal feelings about the surroundings. Formality instead of sincererity, disparity of the rich and the poor and the lack of love among people are only a few things that bothered me. I have talked to many people who left their home and worked in the big city of Guangzhou including many foreigners. I know their feelings have always been one which combined hardship and joy. It is also the same feeling i have always had while staying overseas. Lots of tears and joy together with slight homesickness from time to time. There are other moments when i started to wonder where i come from and where i am going. Does life has any meaning. Do we have a job to complete in this life. Why are we all here in our form of existence.China has changed so much. It is enough to make me feel like a stranger. It was very complicated emotion for me at the time.
Back to Hollywood in April, i retired to my apartment on Yucca st. The soft sunshine of califronia helped me to recover from my depression and filled me with power once again. It is like a slowing healing process which took a whole year. Over the years i have found myself time to rediscover the inspirations that i have gained via the 6 months trip back in China. The material naturally ended up as songs on the 2nd album. Looking back though, things were not as bad as i thought it would be after all.
The 2nd album is an effort made by the singer and me to carry on the tradition of WIND BIRD while broadening song topics. Xiaofeng and me have always shared a common dislikeness of cheesy pop and pointless love songs. We wanted to go somewhere else and help people to discover other meanings of life. We all agree that musical expression should have no boundaries and music should be free. We tried all kinds of appraoches in the song writing and production of the second album. it is the final product of great creativity plus dedication of all the people involved in the making of it, i should say.
Surprisingly Xiaofeng and me have never had a definite say in the musical style and direction in regard to WIND BIRD's music.It was like when boys and girls fall in love. It is what it is and there is no why. We felt in love with music long time ago together and we just dived into it without asking questions. Over the years,We have always tried to write stuff which inspired us. Nevertheless, the media always try to brand our music into something which we never agreed upon. Wondering what is the unique style of WIND BIRD? Whoever listened to the 1st and 2nd album would definitely have a better idea. In fact, upon finishing the production of the 2nd album. Xiaofeng and me talked over the phone with mutual excitement that our music is definitely going somewhere. It is a good direction that we took instead of a bad one for sure. The analogy i'd like to use is this. Imagine a ship and its crew long lost in the sea. One day, they saw a lighthouse emitting light beams from a distance in the darkness. The ordeal is now over and hope is back with the lost crew. In Fact we were so excited that we can't help talking about the 3rd album which will definitely come in time.
All the songs were a direct result of the dedications of all the musicians and engineers involved. Every single one of them should be proud.
