Over the years the Service has acquired a keen awareness of the problems posed by Languages for native speakers and has developed a logical, flexible and effective approach to the teaching of the language. The BLS approach is practical. The emphasis is on using the language while at the same time building a sound grammatical foundation and providing relevant information on the society, its traditions and culture. We advise students on how to study to get the best results.
These are carefully selected. They are all qualified language teachers with an excellent command of Languages. Trained in the BLS approach, they have extensive experience in teaching adults.
Our success has been largely due to the quality of our own course materials, developed by the Service, Director of Studies at BLS. Service is the author of Teach Yourself Something, probably the most popular Language coursebook with speakers of Languages.
The number of hours needed to achieve one of the following levels is a guideline only and refers only to time you spend in class. Individual progress varies. We will give you a clearer picture of the time needed to achieve your target after your oral interview.

Every student at BLS benefits from our course management system. This has three phases:
An oral interview establishes the student's linguistic and professional needs. We offer a language audit to all companies. This identifies the specific language needs of an organisation. We test all students, with the exception of total beginners, to establish their current level.
We draw up a set of objectives for the student and a course of study is agreed upon by BLS and the student.
The Director of Studies monitors the students' progress and necessary adaptations are made to the program. At the end of the course students may take a recognised external exam. We also advise them on how to maintain their proficiency.
