McFadden’s Disappointing Season
When the season got off to a slow start in fantasy football for Oakland
Raiders’ running back Darren McFadden, nobody really freaked out. In his first
start of the season against the San Diego Chargers, McFadden carried the ball
15 times for 32 yards but he had 13 catches for 86 yards. This led many to
believe that McFadden had a future as a back that could be (and would be)
utilized in the passing game under new head coach Dennis Allen’s new offensive
scheme.
However, in the weeks to come it appeared that the scheme that
originally looked like it would help transform McFadden into a more versatile
weapon in fantasy football looked more and more like it was doing harm to
him in the running game. McFadden and Allen would both later deny it, but it
seemed like McFadden was struggling to adapt to Allen’s zone blocking offensive
scheme. We may never know for sure what the cause of McFadden’s struggles in fantasy football this season can be attributed to, but the fact remains
that this was a lost season for him.
There is no way to call this season anything but a bitter disappointment
for McFadden who was having a great season last season before he broke his
forearm about midway through the season and missed the rest of the season.
McFadden has 150 rushing attempts for 507 yards and two touchdowns for the
season and appeared in his first game in just over a month in Thursday’s 26-13
loss to the Denver Broncos. So an injury has once again taken McFadden out of
the picture this season, this time a bum ankle that has left him in
questionable limbo for most of the season. If McFadden doesn’t bounce back next
season, he may be finished.
