Why Is It Difficult To Complete Work On Time?

Generally almost all of us are working around the clock and to keep up with the modern, fast paced world we all have deadlines to meet; be itself imposed or given to us by an instructor. The problem, then that most of us do face is how to actually meet the deadline. We all are well aware that we need to complete the work in the given time frame, why is it then that we do not? A question that nearly every student need to ask themselves is why they don’t do their assignments and projects on time, despite being given ample deadline in most cases.

Reasons As To Why This Is So

There are many reasons for not completing work on time, but the following three head the list:

  • One of the most common reasons is more than half of us are chronic procrastinators. A statement may sound rude, yet it is an undeniable fact. We keep delaying tasks because somehow magically they will eventually get done, or we just believe that we’ll be able to work better under pressure trying to reach an impossible deadline. All these excuses are just a façade covering up the real truth and that is that we are simply procrastinators who need to start doing instead of hitting that procrastinator’s paralysis.

  • Another reason why we often hit the road block on our way to completion is because we fear failure. We all very often, unconsciously, keep delaying our work because we are afraid to be unable to impress everyone. We take failure very seriously, but what we fear even more religiously than failure is being judged on our work. We all commonly believe that it is the work that we do that defines us and has led to a negative impact. We are now much more at ease by having our efforts judged and being called ‘lazy’ rather than having our work judged and failing to impress the particular people.

  • Another reason why we often hesitate to complete our work is because we’re having fun. Sometimes when we’re really enjoying a project or an assignment or reading a book, we do not want it to end. We’re afraid that if it ends the fun will go away with it. It’s never easy to finish reading a book because then we’re unable to think of what we would do to pass our time after the job is done.

To get our work done we must firstly identify the problem that we face and then work towards eliminating it. A few simple tricks could work miracles for us. By breaking down our work into small parts we can easily reduce the procrastinator’s block since looking at the big picture is what causes it. Set the priority of the work, since we all know what needs to be done and when and how important the work itself, breaking it down into smaller work and by prioritizing each can make you do your work on time. Why not try the trick and see how efficient you become in doing your work on time.
