Movement Based Learning Center
Rhodes

Where learning is active and fun!

Are you concerned about your child's success in school?  Do you have a student in your class who you are worried about?  You have come to the right place.

The Movement Based Learning Center is an after-school club designed for the stuggling student.  Enhancing Curricular Understanding and Appropriate Socialization are the primary focus of this program.   We are different from other educational approaches you may be aware of and have possibly tried.  Theatre and Dance are great outlets for utilizing excessive energy and decreasing attention problems that some students have.  We evaluate each student's strengths and weaknesses and use the strengths to overcome the weaknesses.  We have built a community, not a classroom, that is designed to mold around the needs of our students.  Sessions are limited to 15 students or less, assuring individual attention.

Gregory Rhodes is the founder of "The Movement Based Learning Center."  He holds a B.A in Dance and Choreography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He has worked in London, England- Cuenca, Ecuador- and Hickory, NC with Exceptional Students.  He discovered movement as a learning technique by trial and error working with his former students.  It is a very powerful tool for information gathering, processing, and retention, especially when working with students with ADHD.

Jay Bush, Jr. is an educational facilitator at The Movement Based Learning Center.  He is an experienced actor with over 40 shows to his name.  He is a theatre graduate from AMDA in New York City.  After working with students with ADHD in his theatre classes he shared the same desire as Mr. Rhodes, to reach out to those children who have not had an EXCITING educational experience but have a lot of potential.

We decided to found this Learning Center to appeal to those students who have learning difficulties.  Many students who have trouble in academia excel in "the Arts."  Our goal is to relay academic material through the arts so students will take interest in learning.  Mr. Bush incorporates mathematics into his scenic design portion of his theatre classes.  Reading is also a major component of his theatre lessons.  Mr. Rhodes' dance classes incorporate mathematics and reading but the major component of his classes are cultural studies.  Geography and whole-world awareness are emphasized because of Mr. Rhodes' travel experiences.
