Dorothy Morre and James D. Morre are researchers from Purdue University who conducted studies on the compound in Green Tea known as EGCg, which disrupts the feeding of cancer cells. (Back)

Green Tea Leaves

Green Tea, unlike other teas is processed differently when picked. Rather than being withered and oxidized like black teas, green tea leaves are steamed and parched to preserve the medicinal substances within the leaves. As a result, the compound EGCg which is found in many kinds of tea leaves is much more potent in green tea. Thus, it has a greater impact on inhibiting the tNOX chemical, which is always active in breast cancer cells. The Morre’s studies have shown that EGCg does not impact healthy mammary cells, which only express NOX activity when dividing in response to normal growth hormone signals. Without tNOX, the cancerous cells cannot grow after division, thus they will go through apoptosis, also known as “programmed cell death." (Back)
