to All…
Before the beginning of the Halloween
2009 season, this update will be still in single long scroll format; therefore
you’re likely going to need to refresh this page a few times over. My apologies
but time constraints and the sheer size of this project make for this compromise
necessary. Otherwise, most of you that have been here before will find that not
much has changed… just a few more images from inside and well beyond Ann Arbor
to post onto for you here to enjoy.
Also, for those of you who ask – no… I’ve
never made so much as a cent on this project (not that I would not mind). Thus
why it is supported suspiciously here currently on one of the free hosting
sites offered online.
And as in the past years, I still have the following Halloween
retrospectives still up and running for both your curiosity and convenience.
“Sigma Phi”
Halloween 2008 proper began for me on the 23rd of
October, when I read in the Michigan Daily of a Haunted
House being thrown for charity by the Sigma Phi at the University of Michigan.
This event needless to say, drew me to it like the tone deaf to a Motley
Crew concert. After screwing up a map search that had me roaming about Ann
Arbor for an hour and a half; I finally managed to find it.
Fortuitously, in retrospect; they were soon to close. After I
explained to them of this projects purpose and subsequent history; they
provided me with something of an extended personal tour. So, my special thanks
and my personal regards, for those who provided such an excellent start to the
Halloween season (and for providing the costume of the year, as seen at the Epilogue page of this site)...

“Devils Night”
Devils Night, the entry into Halloween, was a bit more
busy then I thought it would be. Mainly because, I was invited to be with
friends at a at the local Buffalo Wild Wings Devils Night event here in Ann
Arbor; hell, If I knew they were going to have a Costume Contest with money at
stake (hey, is there any prize money for crazy webpage’s like this?), I would
have worn the Wizards Robes I use every year instead of the “Bemused Devil”
get-up as you seen previously.

It started by accident 5 years ago, when I was
going about my way back to my father’s house -- I came across a gentleman that
I thought I knew from a previous party. He lead the way to the Thayer Street
Halloween party and even after I realized I did not know him; I felt initially
welcome enough to stick around and take a few images and leave them be. The
next year they seemed to be quite pleases that I showed up once more in their
area one Halloween weekend night and asked the guy with the website if come
back that evening; and that I did.
Thus, is how the tradition of Thayer Street was
born…

I told one of them what the original book
was for the most part really about and it nearly gave him a stroke….

This actually is the very
first Halloween image I took for 2008, despite it current location…
And my many thanks to the Arcade Barbers for providing me with this slice of
Halloween pie – and for these additional images they offered, after I informed
them of this project here…
You should know by now
that you’re not exactly are dealing with a “Social Genius” here; let alone a
technical inclined one at that, as you will note with the numerous flaws on
these web-sites and images presented. So, I am sorry to those I troubled to one
degree or another.
Also, for those of you
asking about the lack of pictures from Nu Sigma Nu? Well, here is an emailing I
received in relation to their Halloween activities…
Hi John,
The website looks great! Unfortunately the
housing market has hit us
too. We no longer exist as a medical
fraternity house so there will be
no Halloween festivities.
Now, that is a tragedy, it
was one of the sweetest Halloween parties in all of Ann Arbor. Of course, given
my cynical nature I half expect to be flooded images from that party from
people laughing at my gullible self from the party that was held anyways.
Even after nearly a year
until the start of Halloween 2009; I’m going to wait for some more images both
out and in the States and those in the Military. Hopefully these links will be
passed out by them. In particular by Alyssa’s boyfriend to all of those with
their images on this amateurish attempt of mine chronicling Ann Arbor’s and
other’s Halloween.
In parting, I like to
dedicate this Politically Incorrect, Cultural Black Hole, manifestation of bad
taste to Professor Donald Bindley,
of Brandeis University; whether or not he even knows about this and is
amused or horrified by this project I know not (and to this latter day I do not
know)? This came to mind after reading an article from Nat Handoff about the how he was
being taken for task over an ethophalism used in an intellectual context. We’re
all flawed and I myself having a fractured mindscape have made me vastly more
so then most. That being as it is for me; I’ve learned that none of us are as
flawed as the morally vain, however…
