How To Take Care Of Rattan Garden Furniture

Having rattan garden furniture in your garden can add beauty to your outdoor space. It also fits perfectly with its natural setting since rattan is an all-natural material. It may look beautiful but every homeowner with rattan furniture in his outdoor garden should know that it must be taken cared of properly in order for it to last a long time. Rattan garden furniture is made out of stick-like materials that are woven in order to create the furniture. Since they are woven, the dirt and dust can easily accumulate in between the weave of the furniture so it needs regular cleaning and maintenance.

Cleaning your rattan garden furniture must be done at least once every month in order to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt on the surface and gaps of the furniture. You can vacuum every nook and cranny of the furniture in order to get rid of the dirt. You can also wipe it down with a slightly damp but clean rag. Dampen your cleaning rag with water that is mixed with a small amount of dishwashing soap. If there is accumulated dirt in between the gaps in the furniture then you can remove them with a small brush. All these routine should be part of your regular maintenance of your rattan garden furniture in order to keep it clean at all times.

If the tasks mentioned above are not enough then you can also hose down your rattan garden furniture. This can only be done if the furniture is made purely of rattan or other materials that will not get damaged with water. Be sure to remove the cushion seats of the furniture if there are any before you hose it down. After hosing down the furniture, wipe it down with a rag dipped in water mixed with a small amount of dishwashing liquid soap. Rinse the furniture thoroughly to remove all traces of soap and then let it dry completely under the sun. It may take one to two days before the rattan garden furniture is completely dry. Do not sit on the rattan garden furniture if it is still wet or even slightly damp because rattan is a very flexible material especially when wet. Your weight can stretch the rattan garden furniture and cause it to become deformed.

After the rattan garden furniture is completely dry, apply some linseed oil that has been boiled all over its surface. Apply the linseed oil to the rattan surface with a paintbrush. Let the oil dry then apply another coat until the surface of the Rattan Garden Furniture is shiny. Once the furniture is shiny, wipe it with a clean rag and let it dry under the sun for at least one day.
