This is the Macross 7 variable VF-19F/S I just
bought. Its basically 2 VF-19 versions in 1, its just a matter
of switching the head pieces. It cost about $40AUS which is a
bit heafty, but I've realised with these Bandai model kits, is
that you get what you pay for. There were cheaper versions of
other veritech fighters, but like the gundam kits it is very limited.
If I were to pay another $20 this cool jet would probably be able
to transform completely without the need to pull it all apart
and rearrange. It has about 85% transformation. That 15% inludes
the head, part of the chest and the legs. With a little bit of
custom building, I could probably get it to work, but at $40...
I don't think so. Like the previous Gundam kits I got, this one
should have a paint job. It has a stack of stickers which makes
it acceptable, but one day I'll have to paint it. The bad things
about it? Well besides not being 100% transformable, the transfmorming
process can be a bit fiddly at first and you have to line things
up correctly and have joints rotated the right way for it to work
properly. There are like 5 joints in the elbow which make moving
the arms difficult without the arm unfolding and being twice as
long as it should. This also makes holding onto the gun a bit
fiddly. Apart from those minor problems this I a good model. It
even has working landing gears. The fold out and the wheels turn...
now why they can't put this type of detail into making the thing
completely transformable... I don't know. I'd recommend this series
of kits for Macross fans. |

These are the plastic
Robotech toys that I bought in the early nineties, when the Robotech
series aired on the morning kids cartoon show. I remember buying
these and if I was more addicted to pop culture junk as I am now,
then I would have bought the VF-1J and probably every other one
as I remember they were pretty cheap... The 4 that I bought [I
also have a Roy Fokker figurine] only cost me about $20!! Considering
that nowadays to buy a fully poseable VF-1J would cost a lot lot
more. |
