This
is the amazing sequel to Alien Breed. You could also say that it's the sequel
to the special edition but the special edition came out as an interim between
one and two.
The graphics have been totally revamped, the aliens actually look like aliens and not bionic snails, there are more types of aliens to kill, the level's detail has greatly increased and the music is much better. The only bad point is that this game is a lot harder than the others.
Subtitled The Horror continues, Alien Breed 2 is set on Federation
Colony Alpha Five. The station has been transmitting emergency S.O.S. signals
for the past few hours. The guys at Federation H.Q. fear the worst, worried
that history is repeating itself. It's been nine long years since the original
outbreak at ISRC4, and since then, the threat of war no longer hangs over
the Federation, everyone is aware (and afraid) of the possibilities of another
alien invasion. They prepare together, so they know they are safe. The IPC
has expanded, mainly due to the alliances of the six races inhabiting the
Federation colonies. With this new problem at FCA5, the IPC calls together
the four strongest members of it's squads. These are Johnson and Stone, the
heroes
who
battled the original Alien Breed at ISRC4, Ruffertoo, a lizard-like creature
with very high intelligence, and Zollux, a tough war robot built by the IPC.
Only two of them will investigate the colony, and they have no idea of the
horror that awaits them...
This is definitely the hardest out of the Alien Breed Series. This is mainly because of all the different enemy's, for example on the first level you have helicopters shooting at you and if you bump into them you die. Their are also aliens that shoot fireballs at you causing damage from a difference. Still you can always upgrade your weapon using the intex computers.
This game received a very good score of 80% in Amiga Format, possibly lower than the Special Edition's 87% because of it's difficulty. The level code system is pretty bad (better than the special edition, typing in a cheat on the intex terminal) Whilst there are valid level-codes for every level (see the cheats page) the game only gives you a code every seven levels. Getting through seven levels without needing to restart the game could be considered a major accomplishment with the difficulty set to Tough.
