El Rancho Hotel \ Casino, Las Vegas NV

Had to pay tribute to my now-gone "favorite" landmark, the late El Rancho hotel/casino.

Because I stay at the Sahara so much, I always passed right by the El Rancho, and could even see it most of the time from my Sahara room (it was practically next door).

Never paid it much attention early on; it was obviously a failed business, a decrepit old abandoned building, doomed for implosion. It only became kinda a joke because of the stubbornly insistent sign:

Coming Soon

Future Home of
COUNTRYLAND

This "Countryland" bit must have been up on the sign for years, in faded, cracked letters, 'til it became a stupid joke for me to feign excitement over this wonderful "Countryland" which was coming soon.

There was always something a little strange about how it sat vacant so long... There were rumors, and even some mystery surrounding the place:

The rumors were always about who actually owned it, who was supposedly about to buy it, and what they supposedly planned to do with it, etc, etc:
