History of the Westcustogo Inn

The town of Yarmouth was originally called Westcustogo, dirived from the Indian name of the River running through Yarmouth, The Royal River. The Westcustogo Inn was established in 1920 and was known throughout the East for its shore dinners and homestyle cooking. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanor and their dog Fala all visited the Westcusogo Inn. As did Fred Allen and Portland Hoffa, Joe Louis, Gene Tunney, Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Mary Pickford, Myrna Loy, Douglas Fairbanks, Bette Davis and Gary Merrill.
