I sometimes hear advertisers complain about
their E-zine
ads, not bringing them the result they expected. Because
of this, they get disillusioned and give up this way of
advertising.
Let me tell you, they are wrong, because E-zine advertising
really does work.
I continually swap and pay for ads in several E-zines, and
this brings me a continuous flood of new subscribers/visitors.
You just have to be sure to place the right ads in front of the
right people. This is called targeted advertising, the most
effective way of promoting on the Internet today.
There are 3 kinds of E-zine ads.
-Standard ads.
In my experience, standard ads, put together in a special
section, do not work well. I also skip the classified ads
part when I get there, so forget about these ads when you
start an ad campaign. Standard ads will not pay off.
-Sponsor Ads.
Sponsor Ads are placed at the top of an E-zine, and they
bring in good results, so you should always try to get
these ads instead of Standard ads.
-Editor Recommendations.
I find this to be the best technique. You work out a deal with
an E-zine Publisher, where you ask him to recommend your
service in his editorial, and in return, you can do the same
for his/her service/product.
Most Publishers will be glad to do this. Just write them a
friendly letter, and explain exactly what you have in mind.
You can also set up a joint venture, and swap an ad in
each others welcome message. (You do have a welcome
message, do you?) Just put a few lines in it like below:

Most people will subscribe, because they are already in
a "subscription mood". I have several recommendation
ads running, and they work excellent!
-Note: If you are an E-zine Publisher yourself, remember
that placing ads in your newsletter is not just another way
to make fast money. Keep in mind to bring your readers
advertisements that are useful for them, so don't offer ads
for cat food in your "Doggie E-zine".
Nobody is interested in misplaced ads; your subscribers
will not take you seriously when you try to offer them things
they don't want, resulting in more unsubscriptions, and
your sponsors will have waisted their advertising dollars.
This lack of professionalism and concern can eventually
lead to the end of your on line publication, so don't get
blinded by the idea of making it fast to the "golden
mountains"...
Making money should never be considered as a priority for
an E-zine Publisher. Stay focused on your content, and you'll
grow. All the rest will come automatically...
It is your task as a publisher to keep your advertisers/sponsors
happy. They help you by supporting your publication, so threat
them like kings.
Doing this will reward you by repeat ad placements from
your advertisers. Your E-zine needs them as much as your
advertisers need your subscribers.
Keep this in mind when you place another round of ads.
