Celebration of Jesus
In the beginning of
time as we know it, before quartz clocks could keep it, was the Word: Jesus Christ,
the everlasting, meaningful expression of God. He represents all authority and
spoke forth God’s creation on the breath of Holy Spirit’s power.
Celebration of
Christmas-time holds the power of that Name without the world even realizing
the glory of its worship. The glitter in the blinking lights along busy streets
and shoppers reflects that expression of God’s creation of joy among men during
this season of giving.
The Christ of Christmas
Life itself is within
the word Christmas, and this Life within birthed life. Nothing existed that
Jesus did not create by His authorized words breathed in the beginning of life
on earth.
Now ponder this: ‘The Word became flesh and dwelt among us …’
(John 1:14) God’s Son was born to earthly parents, was raised by earthly
parents, lived and grew up under submission to earthly parents, but was also in
the beginning before everything existed.
And for this we celebrate the season named Christmas.
On the hillside that glorious
night of Christ’s birth, the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded the
shepherds as they guarded their flocks of sheep. The angel reassured them this
good news would bring great joy of celebration to all people. Our Savior the
Messiah had been born in Bethlehem – the promised One – the Christ of
Christmas. And suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others – the
armies of heaven – praising God and saying, “Glory
to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
(Luke 2)
What a celebration of
worship that first Christmas!
The Season of Worship
When a child sings
off-key a Christmas carol they are learning, we smile and think – how precious.
When someone much older sings, hitting every other beat with a clap, we frown
at their tone deafness. But our loving Father God smiles at both and taps His
foot to the rhythm of each one’s celebration of worship from a sincere heart.
At this special time of
year does our celebration of His Son bring honor to the name that Christmas
presumably represents? Does the celebration seem to be off-key or off-beat due
to all the clamor of the demands of the commercialization of the season?
Let us truly
represent the image of the Christ of Christmas this year, and the name you
carry as Christian, with a celebration of
worship that others will see and know is true.
