IS JESUS REALLY LORD?
JJ Daniel, Washington
“Jesus IS LORD!”
Is He? Is
He REALLY?
Matthew
7:21 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
How often do you hear people say: “JESUS
IS LORD”? Do you your self proclaim the same? Do you tell Jesus that He is
“Lord of Lords” - “Lord of the earth” and “Lord of you” - when you worship Him?
Is it a TRUTH – or is it just one of
those Christianeze phrases that really mean nothing? Is it just a phrase that sounds right? Just
something you’ve heard others say… or read?
Adonai:
“Adonai” – is a Name of God that is a bit
different than His other Names. This Name places the responsibility of it upon
His servants (you and me).
ADONAI: “Master,
Owner, Lord”
Knowing God as “Lord” brings Him to a
personal level. He moves from being the
BIG GOD up in the SKY… and “THE CREATOR” to being a personal God, and Father.
One thing that we want to make note
of: This Name is plural, and speaks of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy
Spirit.
The Name ADONAI, translated in the
King James into “Lord” appears 300 times in the OT alone. It is translated to “Lord” - not written in
all caps, as “Jehovah” is.
Psalm 110 “The LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou
at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy
footstool”
In Exodus 21:1-6 we find an example of
a “bondservant.” A bondservant is one who is a servant or slave, by choice. This slave is free to go, but chose to stay as
this man’s servant.
Adonai is The God who totally owns His
people: He created them for Himself, He loves them, He protects them, provides
for them, directs them, etc. He could have created a race of puppets… (it would have been a MUCH better place!!), but He didn’t. He gave us a free will, and we CHOOSE to serve
Him, or not. His desire is that His
creation will chose to be His bondservant; a servant who is
loved-unconditionally; a servant that will trust the Master’s direction; a
servant who will obey The Master; a servant who depends on his Master.
Adonai is Master: Master of those who have
chosen to serve Him. He redeemed us (purchased us)… and
at the same time, He bought our freedom.
Even Jesus became a bondservant to the
will of His Father. When He went to
Gethsemane to pray (Luke
22:42-44), He asked
the Father to remove the bitter cup that He faced, if it were possible. However… “Father, YOUR WILL be
done, not mine!”
In this same way, WE become a
bondservant to Adonai. We choose, to make Him our LORD, or we choose to be lord and master
over our own life.
IS JESUS LORD?
Do we daily take up our Cross and
follow HIS WILL? It is easy to SAY
“Jesus is Lord” – but is it an evident TRUTH
in our daily life?
We live in a society that has taught
us to “Be your own person!”- “Be true
to yourself!” - be a “Free spirit!” We grow up thinking that we must “do it MY way!” to be happy. So, when it comes to making Jesus the MASTER of
our life… we have a few things to overcome.
It seems to me that it might be more
difficult for some men to come to the place of giving Jesus the “Lordship” of
their lives. From childhood men are taught that it is their responsibility to
make things work! They are “in charge” –
they are “the head…” they gotta be the “top dog” – “in control” – and so on. Again, this is what society says! However, GOD SAYS… that HE wants to be LORD, MASTER,
and OWNER of those who love Him.
YES! We ARE FREE! We are free to choose how we will live our
life every day. We are free to choose to
follow after Jesus, or not. We are free to choose HIM as “MASTER” - or we can
be our own master – or we can choose to make satan our master. It’s our FREE choice, and no one can make that choice for us!
There is a beautiful old song titled:
“I call Him Lord” that I don’t remember all the words … but I love the chorus:
“The angels
call Him Jesus, born of a virgin… Mary calls Him Jesus… but I they call Him
Lord…”
Praying a prayer of repentance, and
accepting Jesus as our Savior, is a START!
At the moment of our Salvation (redemption; conversion) we begin a journey that will ultimately take us to heaven to live
with our Father, and The Son Jesus. Along the way we SHOULD grow to KNOW
God - The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. Somewhere between the
beginning of this race – and the final destination, we should come to the point
of making Him our Lord and Master.
IS HE ADONAI (Master, Lord, Owner) of YOUR LIFE? Or is
He still only the “God of the
Universe” – and your “Creator”?
Who is in charge of your life today?
Matthew
7:21 LB “Not all who
sound religious are really godly people. They may refer to me as ‘Lord’
(Adonai), but still wont get to heaven! the decisive question is whether they obey my
Father in heaven)
