BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD

Missionary-Evangelist Esther Thornton, Oregon

Dear Friends in Christ,

There is much turmoil in the world today. And the day is coming when men shall seek for peace, but will not find it. Yet, in Jesus Christ, we have peace, no matter what the situation is that we are going through.

I want to share with you eight of the areas of life where we can find God’s peace in various situations that we face.

Peace In Our Busy Schedules:

In today’s busy world, it is a wonder that we get as much done as we do!

A cartoon illustrates a mother with a huge pile of dishes by the sink and with her hands in the dish pan. And, this is what she says: “I’ll start Christmas dinner just as soon as I finish the Thanksgiving dishes!”

.

And, we think that we are behind!

God wants us to have His peace, regardless of what our schedule may be. He can help us to cut corners and those of us who are leaders can delegate authority so that everything does not fall just upon us. Even Moses had to do this, according to God’s instruction, as the load got too heavy.

God has a peace for us that the world cannot give; neither can it take it away.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace In Persecutions:

There is much persecution in some countries of the world today in order for the Christians there to move forward in God and get the gospel out to the people.

One such believer, Brother Yun, was imprisoned in China for eight months. During the first few days of his incarceration, the prison authorities almost beat him to death. Later he was sentenced to seven years in prison. Occasional messages from him said such things as: “God has sent me to be his witness in this place. There are many people here who need Jesus. I will be in this prison for exactly the length of time God has determined. I won’t leave one moment early and I won’t stay one moment too long.” He had a peace even in the prison and in the beatings because of his deep faith and trust in God.

Miraculously, Yun was released after spending just seven months and seven days of the seven-year sentence. Yun became known in China as “the Heavenly Man”. This nickname stemmed from an incident in 1984 when he refused to tell his real name to the authorities. Divulging his true identity would have endangered local Christians. In reply to the threats and beatings of the Public Security Bureau to reveal his name and home address, Yun shouted, “I am a heavenly man! My home is in heaven!” The believers who were meeting in a nearby house heard his shouting and knew he was warning them of danger. They all fled and avoided arrest.

Peace Even in Death:

China and such places face persecution, imprisonment and even death. Yun said that they sang a powerful song on a meeting night called, “Martyrs for The Lord”. It speaks of the apostles who suffered:

John was exiled to the lonely isle of Patmos; Stephen was stoned to death by an angry crowd; Matthew was stabbed to death in Persia by a mob; Mark died as horses pulled his legs apart; Dr. Luke was cruelly hanged; Peter, Philip and Simon were crucified on a cross - Peter insisting that he die up-side-down, as he said he was not worthy to die as his Lord had done. Bartholomew was skinned alive by the heathen; Thomas died in India as five horses pulled his body apart; The apostle James was beheaded by King Herod; Little James was cut in half by a sharp saw. James the brother of the Lord was stoned to death; Judas was tied to a pillar and shot by arrows; Matthias had his head cut off in Jerusalem; and Paul was a martyr under Emperor Nero.

The last verse to the Martyr’s song said this: I am willing to take up the cross and go forward to follow the apostles down the road of sacrifice that tens of thousands of precious souls can be saved I am willing to leave all and be a martyr for the Lord.

When they had finished singing, the whole meeting place was shaken by the Holy Spirit, they earnestly interceded for their nation, and rededicated themselves to fight for the Lord.

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Peace By Following God’s Order:

All we have to do is to look around us to see that God is a God of order. Creation shows forth His handiwork. His Word is our blueprint to know what His order is so that we can follow it. Sin has perverted God’s order in the lives of people; and thus, divorce, homosexuality, children from broken homes, and other problems exist. But, if families would turn to the Word of God, and follow God’s order, there would be unity and peace.

Peace By Claiming God’s Word:

The promises of God are “yea and amen”! Jesus spoke the Word to Satan when He was tempted by him. We, too, should use the Word in spiritual warfare and sickness. We can surely stand on God’s Word; speak it; and claim it for ourselves and for others. This will bring peace in every situation and will bring the answers that we are in need of.

Peace By Having a Godly Mentality:

Satan often plays on believers’ minds, and that is why we are to think on that which is good. We are to overcome evil with good.

Philip. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We are not to have a “Victim” mentality, but a “Victor” mentality.

1 Cor. 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peace in Leaving Results With God:

1 Cor. 3:6-7 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. [7] So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

We are only to be obedient to what God has told us to do and then leave the results with Him. This will produce peace in our lives as it is God’s responsibility to fulfill His Word - and He will do it!

Peace in a World That is Falling Apart:

As I mentioned previously, John Hagee has written a book about a year ago called, Jerusalem Countdown”, which is a shocking, but true, account of the day in which we are living. And, what he wrote one year ago, is even now coming to pass so quickly!

But, God wants us to have peace, even in this evil, fearsome day.

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

We recently showed a film in our meetings by Jesse DuPlantus, who had an experience in Heaven. It was a very anointed film, ninety minutes long, but Jesse had been in Heaven for five hours and fifteen minutes. One urgent request that Jesus gave to him while he was in Heaven was: “Tell My people that I am coming soon!” Jesse responded that they already know that. But, Jesus said, “No they don’t!” “Tell them that I am coming soon!”

And, on that note, I will pray that each one of us finds God’s peace in every situation of life and that we will be encouraged with the fact that Jesus is coming soon. We are to “…exhort one another and so much the more as we see the day approaching”

(Heb. 10:25)

When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He sent His precious Holy Spirit who is our comforter and fills us to overflowing with God’s peace. It is one of the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

God is saying to us as His beloved bride: I have an anointing of peace for you, no matter what you are facing in your life.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

God is speaking to your situation today and saying, “Peace Be Still”! He is saying to “be still and know that (He) is God”. He loves us too much to let us fight our own battles but He goes ahead to fight for us! For the battle is the Lord’s and he says to “stand still and see the salvation of the Lord”!

He says, “MY PEACE GIVE I UNTO YOU“…” let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”.

There is someone reading this today whose life (particularly in your family) has been in turmoil for some time and you are growing discouraged with the waiting for God’s answers to come. He is saying that He is doing a quick work in all the earth in this day and that your answer is on the way! Don’t give up for it will soon come!

May God’s peace and blessing rest upon each one of you special people!

In His Service,

..

Esther Thornton
