Where Do We Go When We Die?
OLD TESTAMENT SAINTS
Luke
26:20-25
From this story
we see that when Lazarus died, he was taken to Abraham’s Bosom where he was comforted; and the rich man
was taken to Hades where he was in torment.
From Hades the rich man saw Lazarus and wanted him to come to him, but he could not
because there was a great chasm between them.
1 Samuel
28:15
The witch
of Endor brought Samuel “up” for Saul and he said, “Why have you disturbed me by
bringing me up.”
WHAT DO WE
LEARN?
Lazarus and the rich man could see each other – which means they had bodies.
However, they could not reach each other because of the chasm between
Hell and Abraham’s Bosom.
Samuel must have been in Abraham’s Bosom as well – the
place where believers went to wait for Jesus’ first resurrection.
NEW TESTAMENT SAINTS
Luke
23:43
Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would be in Paradise with Him. Paradise: meaning Eden.
Ephesians
4:9-10
Jesus descended into Hades between His death and
resurrection. The assumption being that
He showed Himself to the Old Testament saints, took them to Paradise, then returned to earth and stayed 40 days (Acts
1:3).
If I
understand it correctly, everyone (including the Old Testament saints) is now in
Eden to stay until Christ
returns at the Rapture.
1 Thess. 4:13-18; Matthew
24:3-44; 2 Thess. 24:29-31; 1 Cor.
15:35-58
Those who
have died in Christ will come back with Him and those who are alive
will meet Him in the air. Jesus does not return to the earth at this time. He only comes for those who are alive and
remain, we receive our glorified bodies, we all go to Eden
and this ushers in
the
TRIBULATION - Rev. 6-18; Matthew 24:3-44
There is a lot said
about that 7 year tribulation and none of it is good. However, there will be new believers during
that time. At the end of the tribulation
is the battle of Armageddon and then the. . .
SECOND COMING OF CHRIST – Revelation 13-18; 19:11-21
Jesus returns to this earth,
the beast and false prophet are bound for 1,000 years.
MILLENNIUM – Revelation 20:1-15
All believers live on
this present earth for that 1,000 years, ruling and
reigning with Christ. Those
that come through the tribulation will live and procreate; those that have died
in Christ will rule and
reign. At the end of the 1,000 years,
Satan will be loosed and there will be rebellion, then Satan is thrown into the
lake of fire and then comes the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11-15)
NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH – Revelation 21
Jerusalem comes down out of
heaven from God and that is when every tear is wiped away and there will no
longer be any death (v. 4).
