Rev. Ann White,
Two word definitions I
want to give you the Hebrew for are:
SORROWS:
MAKOB – pain
Everywhere we find
sickness, weakness, disease and pain in the Old Testament,
we find they have been translated from the Hebrew words CHOLI and MAKOB.
So it is in Isaiah 53:3
through 5 where we read:
(3)
He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains,
and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their
faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem
for Him.
(4)
SURELY (this means no doubt about it) He has (past tense)
borne our griefs (Hebrew word CHOLI –
sicknesses, weakness and diseases)
and carried our sorrows (Hebrew
word MAKOB – pains), yet we
ignorantly considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God …
(5)
But, He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and
iniquities; the chastisement (needful to obtain) peace and well being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes (that wounded) Him we are healed and made whole.
Dr.
Isaac Leeser’s translation of the Hebrew Bible – a
translation that is used by Orthodox Jews reads, “Our diseases did He bear
Himself, and our pains He carried; while we indeed esteemed Him stricken of God
and afflicted.”
SO, REVIEW WITH ME AND
REMEMBER – He has borne
OUR PAINS
OUR TRANSGRESSIONS
OUR INIQUITIES
OUR PEACE
OUR HEALING, for “by His stripes we are healed.”
Healing is for the healing of an actual disease to
take place.
To be accomplished.
The heal – ing of a
disease or the actual healing process.
These
blessings are for us today, as well as the people back then. For us to exclude ourselves from any of these
blessings, we would have to misquote the verses.
To
know that the chastisement of our peace was upon Him is especially needful for
all of us today in view of the terrorism that has hit our nation.
With
the current status of health care policies being so costly, as well as being
unavailable in many peoples lives, how much more important is it now that we
learn about the healing that God will provide for us if we just take the time
to learn.
Once
again, remember 3 John 2 that says, “I pray above all else that you be in
health and prosper even as your soul prospers.”
The
only SURELY in the Redemption Chapter prefaces His provision for our
healing. There could be no stronger
statement of our complete redemption from pain and sickness by His Atoning
death. Jesus is as willing to heal today
as He was when He was alive on earth because in John
The
Apostle tells us, “He was made sin
for us Who knew no sin (of His own.)” Likewise, “He hath made Him sick (for
us) Who knew no sickness (of His own). Peter
writes, “Who His own self bore our
sins in His own
Jesus
went to the cross, spirit, soul and body, to redeem man, spirit, soul and
body. Therefore, the Cross is the center
of the plan of salvation, for man, spirit, soul and body.
Every
form of sickness and disease and pain known to man was included, and many of
them even mentioned particularly, in the “curse of the law,” that I went over
with you earlier.
NOW,
IN GALATIANS 3:13, we have the positive statement that “CHRIST HAS
REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, BEING M ADE A CURSE FOR US, FOR IT IS
WRITTEN, CURSED IS EVERYONE THAT HANGS ON THE TREE.” What greater declaration could we have than,
that Christ who was born under the law to redeem us, bore its curse, and
therefore did redeem us from all sickness and disease. Here it is stated that it was on the cross
that Jesus redeemed us from the law’s curse.
The Merriam-Webster
Dictionary says that redeem means to:
1) Buy
back: RE-PURCHASE
2) To free
from what distresses or harms
3) To
extricate from or help to overcome something detrimental
4) To
release from blame or debt
5) To free
from the consequences of sin and the penalties of God’s violated law
In other words, He
redeemed us from the diseases, weakness, pain and sicknesses all associated
with those listed in Deuteronomy 28.
According
to the 5th definition I gave you of the word redeem, it says it is “to
free us from the consequences of sin and the penalties of God’s violated law”.
Since
we know there was no sickness before man disobeyed God, that definition tells
us that when Christ redeemed us, he freed us from sickness as a consequence of
man’s disobedience in the garden of Eden.
So,
I would ask you to think about if I truly believe what God’s Word says and what
Jesus accomplished for ME in His life, death, burial and resurrection, why
should I allow this sickness, disease, weakness or pain to remain in my body?
God
didn’t just redeem us from one part of the curse, and leave us to suffer the
results of the rest of it. Our
redemption is synonymous with
We
know Jesus was made to be sin for us.
The object of His sin-bearing was that we might be free of sin. The object of his sickness bearing was that
we might be free from sickness. HE
TOOK EVERY SICKNESS TO BE KNOWN TO MANKIND IN HIS OWN BODY, SO WE WOULDN’T HAVE
TO HAVE ANY OF THEM.
WE NEED TO ACCEPT HIM
AS BOTH OUR SAVIOR AND PHYSICIAN.

Under
our better covenant, does it make sense that we have to go through life sick

It
is said in the Old Testament (Ps. 107:17-20) that God sent His Word and
healed them. He sent that word through
Old Testament prophets. In the New
Testament, God sent His Son Jesus as the Word to heal us.
I hope you’ll join me
again next month, as we continue to grow in the knowledge of God’s Word.
