What bands did you listen to as a kid and what bands are you currently listening now? we grew up listening to everything from beastie boys, run dmc to primus to metallica and everything in between. currently we're really into slipknot, deftones, meshuggah, tool and a few others which I can't think of..
3. How did you guys get the name Colepitz? about a year ago a good friend of ray's, chris colpitts tragically died after falling off his 3rd floor balcony, we basically wanted a name that would mean something. We did it to not only honor chris's memory but also to all real music fans out there, people who go out of their way to support music and live for it..
4. What are some past jobs you have had? there have been a few, here's a little list: motel front desk , html designer/web developer, retail, courier and many more I can't think of
5. What are some cool shows you've played in Maine? By far the best was last night's CD release at Asylum with twitchboy, 6gig and GBB it was fuckin insane! besides that though we've enjoyed playing with sam black church and tree, and we really had fun at the former fine arts last spring..
6. How did you guys end up on Wonderdrug Records? We started playing a lot of shows at Asylum with bands like SBC, Tree, Honkeyball etc... and our manager Brenda worked with Ken and Steve from Wonderdrug during this, we slowly developed a trust working with them and they offered us the opportunity to distribute our album under their label. We came up with an agreement that would benefit both sides and now here we are..
7. I heard you guys have cool art work for the up and coming cd, who did the work? All credit in that department goes to our good friend Max M.L. He is INSANE beyondanything you could ever imagine, you should check out his personal site at: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dunes/4931 he's got some sic shit up there..
8. How has Wonderdrug been treating you guys? so far they've been great, they've come through with everything they promised and more, they've helped us book shows from here to New York and even came down to help us out with the release, it's still early but so far we've been EXTREMELY happy with them and I don't see that changing except for the better.
9. What do you guys do for fun when not practicing? we're total video game nerds, we've all got playstation and waste our days with that, we go to movies, hang out in portland, basically whatever, anything fun that comes to mind..
10. What are some of your favorite movies? there are a bunch, I'll try to give you a short list Half Baked, happy gilmore (anything with Adam sandler), South park, something about mary, and a shitload of others I can't think of
11. What are some past bands you or other band members have played with? Ray: previously played with local band Nan Parlan and attended school for Jazz in Boston and NY Rob: previously in Catch 23, Ku Da Ta and other unnamed creations Brian: formerly in TJ seizure, and others. Mike: I'm not disclosing that info,
12. Did you find it hard to establish yourselves in our small state of maine? actually at first we really didn't have any idea what was involved in getting into the portland scene, Rob helped us out a great deal in that department, promoting booking etc.. After about a year we've gained a pretty strong following in the portland area and are very happy with where we're at at this point in time.
13. Do you have any hobbies such as sakteboarding or other things? I , Mike, used to ski a lot but haven't lately cause of time and $$, I tried skateboarding for a while but I suck at it, mostly like i said before we spend our time hanging out, and playing playstation, we don't really have too much free time with work and the badn going on.
14. What are a few cool local bands youve played with? 6gig, Twitchboy, corridor, former twisted roots come to mind. there are also bands like elapse, thumbthroat, barium, defunct and others that we are really looking forward to playing with
15. What are your favorite venues youve played locally? Asylum, Stonecoast and the former fine arts theater.
16. IF you were to describe your self to people who have never heard you befor ehow would you describe Colepitz? it's kind of hard, we're really influenced by heavy bands like slipknot, pantera, sevendust and meshuggah, but also have a dynamic side ala deftones and tool which we try to blend in
17. Any local bands you would like to tell us to watch out for in the future? like I said before elapse, corridor, barium, defunct, chapiza and thumbthroat are all going to be sic someday so check em out now
18. Any advice to bands starting out? get a demo somehow, whether in a studio or on a 4 track and get it out to as many people and venues as you can, get your name out and start doing shows early, that's the only way you can do it, it takes time and effort, the more you put into it the more you'll get out in the end, as lame as that sounds it's true.
19. Any final coments? thanks for letting us do this interview and thanks to everyone out there who supports us and all local music
