December Thoughts

December 2, 2003

Well I have two weeks to find a fourth class to add to my winter semester schedule. Go figure - I didn't have the credits to registar in the first place and now it's full, and my back-up is full as well. Guess I"ll have to see if I can get into the sex roles in education class.
Got to go to a pretty nifty pre-opening of an really neat new grocery store. Plenty of food and drink to amuse the natives. Plenty of drink I must say - no hand-holding and no lip-touching - it was a success .... in vino veritas it is ... but in vino it is easier .....

Greeted with a hug and kisses .... it's so nice highlighting someone's day.

"It doesn't seem to want to squirt...... Ahh ... now it's working."
"You just have to coax it a little." Laughter ... pause ... stronger laughter - now he understood!!
"Bye, sweetheart." Sweetheart? Accept and move on.

My first solo drive to and from work with the car .... was almost uneventful if it wasn't for the SNOWSTORM!! But all was good - I tried out my ABS breaks in the parking lot and only felt them once on the road and that was right near home. The worst part was finding the lanes and trying to figure out if I was in the right one. Also the guy who was beside me that kept inching forward that made it feel like I was sliding back. That made it interesting too.
Work was "The Slowest Saturday Night in Krispy Kreme History" or at least that's what I'm calling it. Everyone was hacking around so it was kinda relaxed all night. Met up with my old verbal adversary ... I miss that .... and missed out on my new one since the call for sickness was still about.
All in all it was a good night ... even though my dinner date was a bit rushed. ;-)

December 8, 2003

Well last night's party was just a whopping good time!!! As always .... coms people tend to never show up on time, so by the time I was ready to go at 11:30 the party had just started to get going. However I did enjoy 4 drinks and had an interesting way home. Now had only a certain person come along, perhaps I would have been more open to the whole mingling thing, but still was too set in my ways to change that much in so little time.
Had my first full day at the newsroom. It went okay ... things can be helter skelter especially with the absense of any designated time for lunch, however I am allowed to leave at 4pm. All went well on the first day - got to go to the Queen E for a luncheon meeting and got to have some free cake "Take it - you're an intern you have to fend for yourself." and "you haven't been here 12 hours and you're already scamming them out of food? Good Girl!!" Also got to see the Leader of the Official Opposition make a fool of himself - who mispronounces "king" as quin" anyways? But it did make a kind of blooper reel on the 6 o'clock news "I have a dream like Mr. Martin Luther Quin ... Queen ... a dream like King ... to ...." uhuh ... sure .......We shall see how the rest of the week goes on - Thursday is the "all protests all the day and every news conference" day - it shall be busy!!!

Well the interns had a fun day - got to drive around in the CJAD Sunfire, looking for the Bonsecours ballroom in Old Montreal ... but we found it okay ,and after a little searching we made it into a parking spot too. Then we manged to plug into the sound box and record the revealing of the fundraising numbers ... but then ran out of tape and misssed alot of good comments ... ;-( ... then I got t otry to do a phoner which ended up badly ... no actual human really works there anyways ... and after calling long distance to find one ... damn wrong button got nothing for the troubles.
And my last comment about the slightly unfortunate sunday evening party (it is actually quite funny ... really ....) ---> Of all the beer labels to get from all the beers, in all the bars .... I get this one:

Getting soaked to the bone standing at protest gatherings ... that have mostly fizzeled out by then, huddling in a car to keep warm, and running around the city, then waiting forever to see if things will get interesting ..... ahh the life of a journalist!!

December 12, 2003

Between cars on fire in the morning rush hour, the swearing in of the new prime minister and his cabinet, and finding my radio voice (which proves to be more difficult than one might think) my last day interning at CJAD 800 News ... was a little eventful. But the one thing that I will never forget - other than all that I've learnt - was the news editor, a man with such a deep throaty manly voice say while pointing to a picture in a magazine of John Travolta in the early morning hours "I'm as straight as the day is long ..... but I'd do him".

Well much has happened since the 12th - I finally got to spend a Saturday night at home after months of working Saturday nights ... except that the first time in a long time people kept asking me to do things with them when all I wanted was a quiet night at home. Go figure.
Sunday consisted of a nice Cantata at church and meeting up with some old friends. Then a nice brunch out with my parents and a shopping spree.
Woke up Monday morning to a lovely bed of white snow ... and a trudge downtown after lunch through it all. But I had a nice visit and got what I needed.
Friday night was a dinner with a couple of friends that I hadn't seen in a little while ... a nice dinner, a bottle of wine, and some idle chat made it a fun night.
Saturday night was the first day back to work since my driving night in the snow on the 6th ... it was good to be back, and as always, many changes were there for me to discover during the night. We also got free pizza as a holiday treat ... and I think I might've found a new movie buddy.
Sunday morning I was out early (well 10am is kinda early for me) to meet my aunt and uncle at the St Hubert BBQ in front of Place des Arts for my christmas treat. Lunch was an interesting event, since both are very particular in their lunch decisions and very different in their particularities. (Apple juice with lunch since there was no cranberry juice or chocolate milk, the complaint about the fries on the plate when it was thought that asking to hold the fries was made clear, the dessert fiasco with the fondue chocolate added with the fruit cup to be passed on to be used on the vanilla ice cream -since there was no butterscotch you know- only for it to be asked back -since it was so good you know- and the lecture on asking for the bill with the meal so to avoid excess waiting later) But we survived ... both the waiter and I (lol) ... and made it to the telling of the Nutcraker story and then to the Nutcracker Ballet. We were in the middle of about 6 bus loads of school field trips (or more - who knows) ... and a few families ... so it made to be an interesting experience. First was the scrambling of seating, then the changing of seating since people were in the wrong seats ... then the kicking of the seat from behind began ... with which I must admit my uncle had an interesting way to solve it - just push their feet away from the seat when they try it again. After the intermission the exaggerated clapping started, but that was better than the seat kicking by far. I was able to buy a little nutcracker ornament for the christmas tree as a souvenir of my day ... and hopefully I will be able to go another time since I thought the ballet was absolutely amazing. I just might go again next year who knows?
Today was a sad day ..... I spend the whole day in my pj's in bed sleeping ... kinda a relaxing day if it wasn't for the bad cold I had ... I'm off to bed again (it feels as if I never left) ... however here's hoping that I do get better and have the chance to go out tomorrow like planned .... either as a third wheel or with my new movie buddy ... if only the phone was available!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

December 26, 2003

Here's a Krispy Kreme Keeper:
"Whoa!! You're supposed to beep when you're backing up!"
"Okay ... next time I'll fart."

"Beginin' to think, that I'm wastin' time
And I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you, you can carry me through" - Drift Away, Uncle Kracker
The explanations keep getting longer and longer .......

Two movies, two dinners, ..... two dates? ... in two days .... aren't I on fire ..... ;->
