August Thoughts

August 6, 2005

Hmm ... August already ... where has the summer gone?
Went to Lancaster and Cornwall for a day in the last week of July ... that was interesting ... purpose: to shop .... where did we end up? Rob Macintosh and Sears .... like we don't have that at home! Although ... the trip home was an interesting one ... especially during dinner - the messiest millefeuille eaters I have ever seen!!

Work has been pretty hectic - many people on vacation ... no new "hirees" ... and so those of us who are left tend to be over-worked. And so I've had 2 weeks in a row of 40 hours ... yippee ... and yet I managed to find time for an interview at an office job that I'm looking forward to .... invoicing ... mundane ... and yet so exciting all at the same time.

Football game on the 4th - WE WON!!! 42-13 vs Saskatchewan ... stick that into your two-loss streak hat and smoke it! We made it downtown in good time ... had some speedy dinner service ... albet a bit strange ... and managed to not be as early as we were last year. Had some "arm and a leg" expensive ice cream ... and got squished into our corner from fuzzy chest and his friends. Actually fuzzy chest was not the problem so much as his friends were ... the nerve of them to stand behind us on the bench we were using as a seat!! But we did have fun ... and so a tradition has been born!

Work the next morning at 6AM was interesting .... got to sleep at 1am and had to wake up at 4am ... three hours and I was pretty productive I think .... ended up crashing for a couple of hours before supper to catch up. Then on to watch drag racing with my dad. The was pretty neat. The highlights were the guy who fell off his ATV when he wheelied it ... "The Bee" motorcycle ... the trouble maker in the Shelby who smashed the lights causing a 30 minute intermission ... the little kid with the dirt bike ... the Polaris skidoo racing on pavement .... and man was she fast! ... and so all in all it was an amazing drag race event ... ;-)... one I hope to repeat!

Highlights from the past little while:
"Hey this is the corner I got squeegeed"
My new favourite t-shirt logo : "I lied to get the job, They lied a about the job, WE'RE EVEN!"
"For a little price, I can satisfy all your needs ... from weird to kinky..."
Placements of signs ... "Through these doors pass the nicest people ... our cutomers" .... that was above the exit door .... and right beside it was written in French the samething ... however closer to being above the doorway to the bathrooms .... go figure!

A few "isms":
"Pure Liquid Horney"
"Was it with whipped cream?" ... "Just do it"
Many blonde moments .... "For a minute there, I thought you said 'I'm a gold star'..."
... "I think you're going to need to start a new custard" ... "You mean corse?" ... "I think I'm a gold star!"
Ahh the dimples are back ..... ;-)
Painted toes ..... wowowowowow
"It'll be ready in a shake" ... "How fast do you shake?"
Preparing for the BBQ party .... devulging details .... "Is she one of the 10 invited?" ... "Yes." ... "Okay ... cuz she sounds like she thinks she's one of the ten."

After deciding that no tents will be put up at this year's end of summer bash ... I have discover that perhaps we will be a huddled group of 6-8 people in my living room with blankets, sleeping bags and couches as the choice places to sleep on ... if any sleep will be done. Oh well ... just have to see how that goes I guess .....

He surfaced in yet another dream ... and this time the identity was clearly defined .... so what does it mean? Is that kind of relationship depicted in the dream a possibility? It seems quite implausible ... however .... am I willing to venture down that road?

Another successful summer party .... well actually it was probably the first successful one without any casualties ... at least human ones anyways ... feeding the fire led to many many casualties ....
This year was an early start the the evening ... I actually fed the troops before the alcohol consumption began ... not that it helped much ... we were all pretty giggly after dinner anyways ... and the discovery of the Nick and Jessica of the gang was revealed : "My ear is itchy!" ..."Stick a cornpuff in it - make it feel better." ... best friends over cornpuffs ... random hands heading for the lap holding the cornpuffs .... that was some pretty popular snacking. The loss of keys was disturbing for a moment or two ... until we discovered they were in her pocket the whole time .... ahh ....
The rain held out long enough for us to be able to sit by the campfire ... roasting marshmellows ... "It's the special olympics of marshmellow roasting" ... then roasting weiners ... "Mine's lumpy" ... "Mine's crooked" ... "How do you know when it's done?" ... "It's gotta be bubbling and wrinkly" ... "'Kay ... I've got bubbling ... goin' back for wrinkles" ... and the loss of the tip ... sad affaire that was ..........
Opening some presents followed those fiascos ... I got a nice huge Scruffy .... "I know who I'm sleeping with tonight" ... so soft .... ;-) .... and a cute little cupcake mouse. I also got an amazing egg to add to my collection ... a clock egg ;-) ... very special and very beautiful ...
Back at the campfire the experimentations began ... things added to the fire ... Ritz Cheddar and Sour Cream & Onion chips, Marshmellows, Cheesies, Cornpuffs, Krispy Kreme plastic cups, moist towelette, Kleenex Splash and Go, Tim Hortons Timbits, and the box .... we'd like to thank all our sponsors for the campfire night .... it just wouldn't be the same without you. However ... all this was not without some educational value ... marshmellows burn long and look like they're breathing, cheesies burn fast and turn to coal, ritz chip ignite quickly, however the cheddar does not last as long as the sour cream and onion flavour, cornpuffs look like mold on the fire logs, and moist towelettes take flight after burning. That should come with a warning label. Next year's fire will have many more contributions to the experimental end of it - one that won't be overlooked will be the bag of microwavable popcorn ... I suggest helmets be handy for that one!
And last but not least .... the amazing and hilarious "SPLAT" "It's on fire!" ... "Then just send it back ... SPLAT!" ... eewwwwwww .... now if that didn't look like pigeon shit on a log I don't know what else would!

So the clean up was the fastest and simplest so far ... the last guest to leave was around 1:30AM, and then we got our sleeping guests to bed and had breakfast around 8:30AM ... and then off the went around 10:30AM just missing the downpour that followed then down the street to the highway on their way home. Timing was everything .... ;-) I guess I'll have #7 next year ;-)

Sunday date night - dinner and a movie ... how much more simple can it get?
Boccachinos ... with Bill Murray as our waiter ... and some speedy dinner service ... and some amazing dessert selections.
Following that was the movie ... and the colour commentary coming from the group seated behind us .... it would not be the same without it ... some chatter annoys, other is amusing ... we were blessed with the amusing kind ;-)

"Hi ... you speak English?"
"Yes."
"What's your name?
"Okay, I've been here less than 5 minutes and already he's like ... what's your name? do you go to school, when do you work here? ... sheesh..." I gotta be more careful about that smile .... dammit!

Sometimes the most shocking surprises can be the most exciting ones ... I got a "blast from the past" this evening .... I have not had this "confirming presence" in such a long time - here's hoping I'll not make a complete ass of myself!!
