Chocolate Cinnamon Cookies

I kind of made up this cookie during the last holiday season,
it got rave reviews!
So I thought I'd add it here.
An interesting combination of flavors that blend very well! Enjoy!

Chocolate Cinnamon Orange Cookies

2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat germ*
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
(I used unsalted butter)
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 eggs
zest from a medium orange
(about 4 tbls)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract**
1 cup milk chocolate mini chips
1 cup cinnamon chips
1 cup toasted, chopped almonds***(optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In small bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, baking soda and salt, set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter or margarine and sugars until creamy.
Add eggs, vanilla and zest, beating well after each addition.
Add flour mixture and mix well.
Add all chips and nuts and mix well.
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls unto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake about 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
Let stand a couple minutes than transfer to cooling rack.
Makes about 4 1/2 dozen cookies.

*If you don't want to use the wheat germ, just use 1/4 cups all purpose flour
**You can use all vanilla extract if you wish.
***you can substitute walnuts or pecans for almonds, no need for toasting.
