an article on the sno-core show was posted on rolling stone...click, has photos, reviews, other info

the latest issue of rolling stone with jen aniston on the cover has an article on sno-core....it says

"Levi's Sno Core: It's about as mixed a bill as you'll find in these days of fine-tuned demographics. Alt-rock workhorses Everclear headline a show featuring Soul Coughing, DJ Spooky and hard-core rapper Redman. But some marketing wizard somewhere (on behalf of Levi's and the National Ski Areas Association) figures that this is the group to draw the shredhead crowd. Sideshow attractions include snowboard equipment and info, and interactive games - all so you'll head for the mountains."

from mtv online, a review about the sno-core show

"Everclear, Redman, Soul Coughing, and DJ Spooky kicked off Levi's Sno-Core '99 on Tuesday night at the Warfield in San Francisco.

Though the outing was to take place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (capacity 7,500), it was moved to the Warfield (capacity 2,500) which is three times smaller because of slow ticket sales. A similar fate befell Saturday's show, which has been moved from Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheater to that city's Palladium.

The tour found a similarly sluggish box office reception in San Diego, where Friday night's show (scheduled for Cox Arena) has been cancelled.

Aside from these west coast difficulties, the tour is selling well in primary markets, and very well in secondary markets.

Regardless of such concerns, the acts themselves still rocked their hardest for the moshing crowd of mainly late teens and early twenty-somethings. DJ Spooky kicked off the night spinning from a separate stage located near the soundboard, but the big hit of the night was Everclear, who had fans chanting the band's name before they ever hit the stage.

Fellow Sno-Core act Redman is looking at the tour as an opportunity to expand his fanbase, or so he hinted recently.

"The Sno-Cone (sic) tour, is really just gonna open doors for people like... you, white people, and a lot of other branches of people that I ain't reached yet," the rapper said of the tour. "You know, Asian people, you know, they comin' to the show, and Everclear and a bunch of other groups bring that velocity to what I'm lookin' for."

Well, this year's Sno-Cone tour (a.k.a. the Sno-Core tour) will be hitting about 30 cities throughout February and March."

from allstar.com...my god...they're insulting ec...well purty much the whole sno-core concert

"Sno-Core Kicks Off In San Francisco With Rocky Start

Ticket sales for the opening night of the Levi's Sno-Core Tour in San Francisco were dismal. Even after moving the event to the Warfield Theatre -- from the much larger Bill Graham Civic Auditorium -- and filling the main floor with various product display booths, there was still plenty of elbow room for the few hundred people who bothered to show up to witness DJ Spooky, Redman, Soul Coughing, and Everclear share a stage.

Each artist was in a varying state of tour fatigue, and it showed. Everclear, who is still promoting its ancient So Much for the Afterglow album, could hardly disguise their boredom. The band pummeled through a set which sounded suspiciously similar to the one they played last May at the very same venue, with one- hit- wonders Marcy Playground and Fastball. Frontman Art Alexakis even repeated his between- song banter, only this time with a detectable tone of indifference.

At least Everclear compensated for their lack of enthusiasm with a wrathful energy that got the weary kids in the audience off their feet. Soul Coughing, who just strode through town a few weeks ago, merely went through the motions. The band had a hard time competing with the backdrop of hallucinatory vintage cartoons that were synchronized to their songs. Frontman M. Doughty tried out his best fidgety moves, but the band's warped drum- and- standup- bass grooves inspired more blank stares than actual regard.

Far from being the interactive sports and sound spectacular that the Vans Warped Tour delivers every summer, the Sno-Core Tour merely resembled the foyer of the local mall. There were no real snowboards or snowboarders in sight, with the exception of a few video game consoles loaded with snowboarding software. Instead, there was just an odd assortment of cubicles peddling condoms, sneakers, and energy drinks. And the few kids who showed up with skateboards were forced to turn them over to the venue's coat-check upon entry.

DJ Spooky, who was on hand to fill the interim between bands and provide a soundtrack to the flickering TV monitors everywhere, offered some of his less- inspired turntable work, picking crowd- pleasing cuts from the likes of Black Sabbathand A Tribe Called Quest over his typically intricate club fare.

Show opener Redman also took the easy route. Joined onstage by seven cronies (one whose job was exclusively to videotape the audience), he rolled out his catchiest tunes about sex and joints in quick succession, and bound offstage saluting the crowd with, "Peace, motherfuckers!" While he was onstage, he used a major portion of his time promoting his upcoming trek with Jay-Z and Method Man, promising that show would give fans the real deal.

Ten years ago, an eclectic lineup like this would have been revolutionary. Tonight it inspired the same jaded reaction from the audience as it did the headliners: A big yawn. "
