It's not my responsibility.

The task God gave me became overwhelming to me. How could I perform it? How would I be able to do it? And if I tried, to what degree would I be effective? These also led to worse questions... Would I, in fact, be faithful & true to the task? Would I be like the servant who hid his talent? Yearning, praying, singing, reading, and hearing messages- none of these brought relief. Time went by slowly and gnawed at me. As a student in panic over a test, I began to try to cram spiritual truth in me, trying to prepare myself, on the assumption that I would at least make an effort to carry out my responsibility.
But the revelation of God brings liberation. He said, "It's not your faithfulness that is to be tested. It is Mine. It is not a question of you performing a task, but Me performing one. It is not a matter of your concern about what degree you will be effective, but that I, the Lord, will be effective in the fullest degree. Do not worry if you will be proven to be true to the task. It is not you who are to be tested. It is I. And I will be found to be true to the task. It is not your responsibility. It is Mine. So as, afterwards, it will be that all can point to My faithfulness."
Now I see that most of our problem is not the answers we seek, but that we ask the wrong questions! A preacher (Ed Gungor) once said, "Christianity is not my responsibility; it is my response to His ability." This insures that God alone will get glory. Any other way, we are preoccupied with the question of OUR faithfulness. Let us say with David, "With my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations."-Psalm 89:1
Praise God! All we need to do is point out what He's already done!
