Elvis super-family Dawn, Laurence and Gary Marchand have turned the lounge of their house in King Henry's Drive into a shrine to commemorate the career of the rock 'n' roll legend. Pictures charting the different stages of his musical career, commemorative plates, gold record discs adorn all four walls of the room. A juke box stands proudly in the lounge, which plays a variety of tracks. But you can't escape Elvis's music that easily even the phone plays the tune Hound Dog when it rings. Husband and wife Dawn and Laurence met at a skydiving club and had an instant rapport as they were both huge Elvis fans. It was therefore inevitable that their son Gary would grow up to love the king, so much so that he is now an Elvis impersonator and has performed outside the singer's Memphis home, Graceland. Dawn, 58, who grew up in Bangalore, India, took a shine to Elvis's music when listening to him on the radio. She said: "It all started when I was about 10 years old back in Bangalore. My parents didn't really like Elvis at first, but even they started to like him." Laurence, 58, loves Elvis's music so much that he cannot bring himself to pick just one song as his all-time favourite. He said: "I can't choose just one Elvis song as my favourite, as I like so many of them, it would just be too hard to choose." Gary, 38, whose favourite Elvis track is Suspicious Minds, travels the world as an Elvis impersonator, performing in India, Pakistan and the US. The family has visited Graceland six times and is now planning its seventh trip to his home. It would have been Elvis's 70th birthday on Saturday and his hit Jailhouse Rock claimed the number one spot in the Top 40 on Sunday more than 27 years after his death. _____________________________________________________________________________ FROM: http://www.croydonguardian.co.uk/news/localnews/display.var.561125. 0.new_addington_hails_the_king.php _____________________________________________________________________________ Thanks to Canadian Elvis Fan, Charmaine Jensen, who kindly forwarded this article.
